Now I see why she's so eager to close the door.

Edit: comments are unexpectedly different.

CEO: Time is money except for flight attendants.

It's nice to just get a fixed monthly salary and not be timed for every action you do.

Was speaking with a Southwest flight attendant on a recent flight. Their union had been without an updated contract for over three years. Looks like their union just agreed a new contract the other day. Insane.

Flight attendant here✋🏻 it’s actually true, and it’s really sad to see how people treat us. We had a delay yesterday because something was wrong with the plane. Everybody was already on board, seatbelts on and everything, we were ready for take off. We got informed that something was wrong the same way all the passengers were informed, when the captain made an announcement. We didn’t know what’s going on, when we were gonna take off etc. and all the passengers were PISSED. It’s really hard to explain to them that it’s not our fault, that you know the same info they do, nothing more. They just started to curse us, the airline, everybody on the plane. Like, I realize that you’re mad, but there’s actually nothing we can do. Believe it or not, we were also not pleased to know that we would return home much later than we were supposed to. I get that mostly people thought that we were completely responsible for everything that was going on with the plane but we’re not pilots, we’re not engineers who were trying to fix the issue at that time, we’re onboard not knowing anything like everyone else. Stop being assholes and don’t make our jobs more difficult than it already is, we don’t get paid enough for that.

Same thing with pilots. They clock in when you leave the gate, and they clock out when you park at the gate. Pilots and cabin crew each have a couple hours worth of work each day at the gate, between pre-departure checks, briefings, and turnaround procedures, that they just don't get paid for doing

As a flight attendant myself I can confirm that is true!

Nothing screams economic class more than a middle aged man with a burger king hat screaming at a flight attendant

Ex flight attendant here! We didn’t get paid until the pilot released the brakes. So the plane had to be in movement for me to be making any money.

For the company I used to work, the time started when the brakes were off.
However, every company has different rules depending on the union contract.

Huge props for flight attendants for dealing with problematic people during the flight.

Thanks for making people aware of this shameful practice. FAs are under appreciated by the public.

Treat flight attendants with the same level of respect as they show you. Once had an attendant ask me and my sister to move from seats we paid extra for so a mom and kid can sit next to each other. Once we said no he got really angry and continued to display attitude rest of the day

My mom is a flight attendant and she works hard. Be nice to them, they deserve more!

If they are required to perform tasks for their employer in order to keep their job then they are on the clock.

This is completely true, my mother is a flight attendant and it's genuinely awful that there are jobs like that completely take advantage of people just because some stupid criteria like the take off is met. It seems like a no-brainer to pay for their time just being at the airport in general, it's time out of their day essentially wasted because they're not paid for any of it. For my mother's case, she is part of the flight attendant Union that they have, which is amazing, but clearly there's a lot of work still to be done if people are not being paid for work they are doing. It's crazy the inequalities in most jobs especially when you have people at the top of these companies barely lifting a finger when all of the working people are getting paid the absolute minimum.

this is a prime example of something you can only explain in person or in a video in the best way and not by writing it
