I've lived in central Florida for 15 years, this is the first time I've ever evacuated. I have a bad feeling about Milton thats not worth the risk of ignoring

You ever go to a beautiful Caribbean island or the Florida coast and ask yourself, why don't more people live here? Well, it's all starting to make plenty of sense to me.

Dispatcher here… Back in 2017 during Hurricane Irma. I got a call from Kansas state police. They took a call from a man trying to get a welfare check on his mom. She lived in a mobile home near Marco Island where land fall happened.

She refused to evacuate. The last words he heard from his mother were “the water is up to my neck” before the cell service went down.
I contacted collier county sheriff office to notify them of what had transpired. Their response: “we’d add that to the list of places to check to see if she survived”

I then had to call the son back in Kansas. To inform him that someone would be out find his mother… eventually… I never did find out what happened to her in the end.
But the somberness of the call.
Both her son and I knew that she most likely drowned inside her mobile home.

For the love of God. Please evaluate if you’re in an evacuation zone. Save yourselves. Your life is more important that any of your possessions

Seeing that hospital knowing all those patients are at their most vulnerable and unable to evacuate is horrible. 😮‍💨
I was in the hospital during an earthquake that lasted a few seconds, and that was jarring enough. I can't imagine being in that vulnerable position again AND during a monstrous hurricane of this level for up to a day. I hope they're all safe and well protected.

If you stay along the Gulf Coast, you need to keep a 3k emergency fund just for hurricanes. I live in New orleans, we treat hurricanes like vacations and get tf out early.

It takes resources to evacuate. Gas money, a running car, physical ability. 🌀 🙏🏼

Aussie here. I lived on our tropical north-east coast for several years and well remember the nervous anticipation of impending hurricanes (or cyclones as we call them). My thoughts are with Floridians today ❤

I'm just kind of over hearing about how "shocked" and surprised people are over these strong 100 year storms that are happening every year now. WE ALREADY KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN. People have been speaking on this for years now . Some chose to listen and some chose not to listen. And now those people are "shocked" this is happening...smh. hopefully people will listen now that it's knocking at their front door. I hope everyone gets out safely.

I can’t even fathom what people in Fl are going through. How do you even catch your breath?!? Trying to cope with, and get your footing after the utter destruction of Hurricane Helene, only to blink your eyes, and then here comes Hurricane Milton. This seems like a bad dream, but it’s freakin reality! Sending so much prayers and love to Fl.🙏🏾

I am worried about the homeless that can't evacuate. Hopefully they get to a shelter.

They didn’t mention the waters around the keys has gone up 3 degrees is temperature killing coral and therefore wildlife and increasing the chances for storms to develop offshore.

Hang in there Florida, prayers from Jamaica....we were hit by CAT 3 Beryl in July - still recovering, we do feel your pain right now. God go with all of you. Make sure you are safe.

It’s crazy that’s this will be some peoples last storm. Just saw local news in Venice Beach with a man who is staying with his 2 generators.. even though he may get 12 feet of storm surge. RIP🙏

It didn't weaken because of the extremely warm waters of the gulf close upper 80s low to mid 90s where Milton is currently at not surprised that it maintained category 5 status but my thoughts and prayers to all of Florida about to be impacted by this storm
