That chair Easter egg relating to The Shining sort of hints to a similar set of themes between the two that I’ve been thinking about a lot recently. Both are about child abuse and the ways children and family can be manipulated to as an abuser, both are “parents” abusing their children, but in both instances are either entirely other people or so far removed it’s not even a comparison. But both parents and children outside the horror situation still have issues and problems with family. The kids are the ones who have to make it out of their parents horror that they’ve they’ve created for them by using their wits, much like you’d have to if you were a child being threatened by someone who physically you can’t beat. Also, both are really really good. Gotta say, can’t get enough of this artistic child abuse content! :(
