I heard that some myths regarding things you can't do while on your period (like gardening, making mayonnaise or baking) were invented by smart women to avoid doing heavy chores while on their period, because if the cramping was bad, they didn't want or could do those chores, and if it wasn't bad, then they could have an excuse not to do them and get some well deserved rest.

I think a good way of thinking of periods syncing up is kinda like when you watch car blinkers. Multiple cars at a light, their blinkers will sync up and then un- sync because they blink at slightly different intervals.

Im a guy and have no idea why I watched this, but I was very entertained by your presentation and learned a lot. Honestly I feel like the world would be a better place if we all tried to learn a bit more about the opposite sex.

“You can’t get pregnant on your period” this is exactly why I’m pregnant with twins rn

Edit: Thank you to everyone who congratulated me. Me and the babies are good. I’m 5 months pregnant with a boy and a girl

Me: Gets low blood pressure, fainting, vomiting, diarrea, painful bowel movements, migraines, horrible HORRIBLE cramps, throbbing in legs, and severe bloating during my periods.
All of the gynecologists I have seen for the past 17 years: oh you just have bad luck and have more pain than others.

I really wish that more doctors where like Mama Doctor Jones and would take pain during periods seriously :(

I met some guy who actually thought there was one time each month when all people with periods bled at the same time. He literally thought everyone would bleed at the end of each month. 🤦‍♀️

I think part of the period syncing phenomenon is probably the fact that if you announce you're on your period, people who happen to also be on their period have a higher tendency to speak up and say "Hey I'm on my period too" while those not on their periods would probably not say anything.

When I first started my period, my mom was adamant about me tracking my cycle. She told me to draw an ‘x’ on each day I had bleeding. The time in between would determine my cycle. I’m so glad she had me build that habit as a teen since I’ve never had any questions about the frequency of my cycle.

I still remember how shocked I was, when my boss told me not to stock the dairy-products when I am on my period, because I would make them spoil faster. She made it sound like there was medical literature on it. There is. From the middle-ages.

"Periods shouldn't be so painful that they interrupt daily life."
*Laughs in endometriosis*
In all seriousness it can be a matter of just finding what birth control works for you. I had no luck controlling my period pain and heavy bleeding with oral contraception, shots, IUDs, or the Nuvaring. The Nexplanon was a godsend though. Just work with your GYN to find what works best for you and your body!!

I speak as a dude, I think you should do a video on how a woman's cycle can be effected by mental health or outside stressors, such as environmental factors.

"Can't get pregnant on your period" and "Can't get pregnant your first time"--two of the most common myths among teens. Even as a kid myself, I was astonished how many believed these! I made sure my kids knew--and told their friends.

I used to be passing out on the floor from the pain from my period. All through high school. I would miss school from the pain. My mom never told me it was not normal. It’s gotten a little better as I got older but not much.

Favorite menstrual myth: If a menstruating woman disrobes, she can stop thunderstorms.

I think we need a study on that.

Thank you so much for hammering the painful period issue home. As someone who was told that over and over ad nauseam then told I couldn't be in that much pain I ended up thinking I was crazy. I now teach my nieces all of this. I learned the hard way and then researched the crap out of the female body so no one could tell me I was wrong, I was faking, I was... insert insult. You're hopefully helping thousands of girls and I couldn't be more grateful.

I want to say thank you Dr.J! Your channel has helped me realize that my painful periods are NOT normal and I got checked out at my last appointment. I was referred to a OBGYN for further tests and sure enough, I have multiple tiny cysts and either adenomyosis and/or endometriosis. I have a 2nd appointment in 2 weeks for further tests to see if my Bartholin's glands are cystic as well or just swollen, which I didn't even know was a thing that could happen! Thank you for educating women on what is normal and what may not be, it has truly helped me and many women.
