Shane's room is actually great story telling. People assume that he's in recovery and therefore completely sober and all his life is in order but that's not how addiction works. Even is he's sober the mess you make of your comfort zones like your bedroom is something that takes a long time to manage.

I think as videogame players we're too used to happily ever after, one quest done and now everything is fine forever, but that's just not how life, and addiction even less, works

Harvey’s room is adorable to me since it’s something he enjoys and is a unattainable dream of his which I felt bad for him. I didn’t marry him for his room though, it’s the cute little things he says to me. He also made a cute little dinner date for us, a lovely cutscene. I could’ve even said that his pasta tastes just like his mustache which is hilarious.

My sister married Shane in EVERY save file for some reason I’ll never understand, and she found a way to make his room less gross. Here’s some of the things she did:
1. Put tiles over the dirty footsteps
2. Placed furniture or plants blocking the view of the nasty stuff
3. Just dealt with it cuz marriage is a compromise
