How Did Darth Sidious Select Darth Vader As Anakin’s Sith Name? Star Wars #Shorts

Dark Lords of the Sith were given the title Darth, which came before a new name bestowed upon them by their master. The name wasn't chosen at random; it came from the Force itself. The Revenge of the Sith novelization expands on the scene where Anakin pledges himself to Palpatine and the dark side.

Darth Sidious places his hand on Anakin’s brow and asks the Force to reveal his apprentice’s name. The novel indicates the answer is as “dark as the gap between galaxies,” before proclaiming he will be known as Darth Vader.

One of my biggest 🤦‍♂️ moments of all time. I’m in the theatre on opening night of ROTS and this scene happens. I’m like “oh yeah I wonder what his sith name will be!” And I hear it and I’m like “…..oh yeah”

I wonder why the Force chose Vader as Anakin's Sith name. One theory is that Vader is in reference to the word "invader" which foreshadowed Operation Knightfall and the Galactic Empire's right-hand man who invades worlds for his Sith Master.

I always wondered about that. I thought that they just came up with it at random or thought about or "My or my next apprentice will be called this".

My head cannon has always been that in the same way "Tyranus" was because Dokuu was Tyranical and "Sideous" was Insidious. "Vader" was because his first act on behalf of the Dark Side and the Sith Grand Plan, was to "Invade" the Jedi temple.
