How Palpatine Became A Sith Lord

Born into a rich and influential family on Naboo, Sheev Palpatine always believed he was destined for greatness. When he learned of the Sith, he dreamed that a Sith lord would one day whisk him away to become their apprentice. When Sheev was a young man, Plageius visited Naboo and was perplexed by Palpatines shadowy void of a presence in the force. Plagius remembered how his master had experienced a vision of a great sith empire rising and falling at the hands of a shadowy figure, and sought to recruit the young man. However, Sheevs father took a dislike to Plagius and forbid the two meeting. On one fateful night, Sheev and his father argued about Palpatines future, with his abusive father telling him how he should have killed him long ago. Enraged, Palpatine used the dark side to force crush his father before turning on the rest of his family, sealing his fate as a murderer and a Sith lord.

This book was amazing. Quite possibly the best villain origin story in the expanded universe, especially because of the realism. It was just incredibly unsettling. Vitiate's over the top and cliche origin story doesn't compare to Palpatine's subtle psychopathy and scheming in this book.

In the book, his name wasn't Sheev either. In the expanded universe his first name was unknown and he refused to use the first name his father gave him.

The relationship between Palpatine and his former 'Teacher' is one of the most interesting pieces of Star Wars lore for me.
