It is common to find water in the tanks. This may not make sense, but we had the STC for auto gas, and I always worried that I wouldn’t realize that ALL I drained out was water and mistakenly think the gas was good. I was a little neurotic about it. Always worried about everything.

As a skydiver i thought it was collected water from the clouds or moisture up top... haha thats why i jump out of planes and not fly them!😂

Fuel can contain metal shavings, paint chips, biological matter, all kinda stuff :) Ive seen it all on jets and military aircrafts

It's called a mason jar, and what you are doing is called pogo'ing the tanks. Watch sinks to the lowest part of a tank, and those fittings are at the low points. Condensation in the tanks as well as refuel with contamination. Fun job, even big aircraft have this task as scheduled maintenance.

It makes some great lawn mower fuel, my grandpa used to toss it in there because it was easier than putting it back in the plane

Yeah it doesn’t need to be that much. I mean you can take as much, but a smaller one using less works, like we had one that looked like a weird pen and it was great

I worked on ch-53e’s and fuel samples was the worst. They’d always get stuck open and end up dumping several gallons of jet fuel and if it got on you, your day was ruined
