I enjoy hard work. I find happiness and joy in it. And I believe, without a doubt in my mind, those who feel the most fulfilled at the end of their lives are those who have chosen to work hard during it.

When I was young, being successful meant having lots of "stuff." As I get older, being successful in life means (to me) being free from having to own a lot of material possessions. More time to be useful as a human being.

I never sleep better or wake up happier than I do after a hard day's work! ❤

I worked really hard helping my friend Swedish Death Clean her home and it was so satisfying and rewarding. 🥰

I think it helps to put my full self into simple hard work like cleaning the house and planning meals. Our rest time is more worthwhile because we breathe easier and enjoy our time

I prefer "intentional work" instead of "hard work"

Thanks Joshua! I have been really enjoying your videos. I also like that you get right to the point and keep them short.

This is so great! I think hard work makes us better people, helps our families and communities, and contributes to our sense of self-worth. Whatever I do, I try to be present, intentional and give the best of myself.

working to your fullest is great a lot of the time.... but ... work your wage

"our work brings benefit to society" .... this is the clincher.
IF this statement is true... yes absolutely work hard. because working hard IS working hard for society. if you are part of the some80%ish of america that has a BS job ( Bullshit Jobs 2018 book by David Graeber) then nah man... do what keeps you employed and unstressed. save that energy for your passions (if you are lucky enough to have the leisure for them).

yes, working hard... on things that MATTER.
its not that being a grocery bagger is not work that matters.... its that society doesn't COUNT that work as mattering. if society did count such work, then a grocery bagger would not have poverty wages. this is exactly why we need UBI, to make sure that ALL workers, no matter the job, has a completely livable wage. just remember, if a job is paying you minimum wage, it is because they can't legally pay you less.

I used to clean houses for a living. I wasn't satisfied unless the job was done well. I am now a disabled retiree who's husband needs care. I'm still working hard & I will do it till I know longer can.

I don't hate work, I hate meaningless work or work that has no visible impact to those around me, but unfornately my current job is exactly like what I described, I am definitely going to make a career shift. Although I am definitely not a hard worker, I have other hobbies I want to spend time on

You know what?!!???.. I took the stuff waiting to be washed, n out it in the trash bags. So far I’ve done it twice.
3 bags to the dump. 1 bag to DONATE. Today. We start again. No laundry waiting. I washed 1/2 load yesterday. Lol.

overly simplistic and precriptive, so many of us cannot find purpose in our jobs and feel like working for money is just accelerating us towards the wrong destinations

If your job is unfulfilling, maybe consider looking for a new job. I once worked for a financial company where everyone was valued by how much money they had and the day's focus was on making wealthy people wealthier. Valuing people simply for themselves instead of their bank balance was looked down on and ridiculed, and people who were poor or homeless were regarded as worthless. It was a toxic environment. I'll never be as wealthy as I would have been if I'd stayed in that company, but I'm much happier and the work I am doing is more useful to the world too.

Also, if minimalism means you no longer need to work full time to meet your own needs, consider these two options: either cut back your working hours and give the extra time to volunteering or keep working full time and give the extra money to charity. Good causes everywhere are desperate for people to help both practically and financially.

Not to escape work per se. But to escape things like not having to slave away at a job we hate for many possessions we don’t even need and possibly with toxic people or companies or bosses. For me it’s to not “have to” be subject to that sort of thing. To basically not break our backs in service for other people with little benefit to ourselves and possibly causing burnout and a state of rut and depression. Downsizing for me just enables me to better control who I have to work for or how much I have to work or what type of work I choose to do. What I want to “escape” from is other people having so much control over that instead of myself having more control over that. Like if I find myself with a toxic boss, I can more easily quit and search for a better workplace without potentially becoming homeless. For those of us who have been there, we know exactly why we want that life. Bcuz getting bullied/abused or being homeless is like a choice that isn’t a real choice. It sucks either way.

For me the happiest part of the day is the first hour or so after the work day ends. The feeling of accomplishing something and being fulfilled by it is extremely rewarding.
