Brian Cox said ( and maybe he was not he first) that far as we know we are the only creatures who appreciate the vastness and complexity of the universe. We are the only ones who can wonder at it and question it. We are made of star stuff and are of the universe itself. So we are the way in which the universe knows itself. We are the consciousness of the universe. Yes it is likely there are other intelligences in the universe that may know it also. But that does not diminish our role. That i think is what makes the human race special and is cause for some justifiable ego. The fact humanity is physically infinitesimally small is irrelevant.

What makes humans important is not our numbers or size in the universe but our rarity and the rare things we do. Even within our own solar system we occupy patches on the thin surface layer of a tiny planet while the rest of the planets have no life at all, much less intelligent life. We should never take that for granted but rather treat it as an enormous responsibility and opportunity we should not waste.
No aliens are not abundant either. If they were we most definitely would have seen plenty of them throughout history. Life is rare and intelligent life is rarer still.

Humans are ego for not accepting that they are actually cousins with the one that jumps up and down the tree in the forest. In fact, the more they don’t want to believe it, the closer they get to the forest. The more they don’t believe it, more and more hair they get and grow in the wrong places. 😆
