One of the best ways to keep Alzheimer’s disease (or any type of cognitive decline) at bay is to take charge of what you put in your body. Dr. Daniel and Tana Amen both have always said that “food is medicine or it’s poison”, and this notion is especially true when it comes to preventing cognitive decline. In this fourth and final episode with “The End of Alzheimer’s Program” author Dr. Dale Bredesen, he and the Amens break down exactly what you should be eating to decimate your risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

I’m only 41 and have eaten plant based for 21 years. I knew my memory was becoming problematic, but then I had one week where I thought I was on the road to early Alzheimer’s and panicked. I was B12 and iron deficient and needed more omega 3s. These two doctors have been instrumental in my turn around.

My dad and stepmom ate restaurant food/ fast food all their lives and never got dementia. They died at 93 and 88. But they also lived the lowest stress lives I’ve ever seen. There are definitely many factors at play.

I started an intermittent fasting/keto diet and lost 60 lbs during early Covid lockdown.

Over 10 years ago after my boyfriend at the time was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, I learned about Dr. Dale Bredeson through a docu series with other notable doctors & contributors. Of course, I was very impressed by him. Definitely going to purchase his book as I'm starting to worry about my own brain, especially that I'm overweight, have inflammation. I'd rather be proactive as soon as I can, instead of progressing past the point of no return.

I liked and never realized what the gentleman said around 9 50 about counting calories like money. Being a value spender

My sister n law’s mother eats a regular diet & is 87 years old with No Alzheimer’s or Dementia. I believe that the medications one takes has a lot to do with it too. My mother was an active person and got Alzheimer’s, But she did have High blood pressure and heart problems.

My mother ate well, and took vitamins, but was highly stressed. She ate oatmeal with sugar every morning. And she ate artificial sugar (the pink packets), six in her coffee a few times daily. She had Alzheimer’s for 10 years prior to her death. What doctor Bredensen said was mishmash to me...he was way over my head! I’m twelve minutes into this video and really haven’t learned a lot about the diet to eat to avoid Alzheimer’s disease. Guess we have to buy the book. Salad for breakfast and fish. That’s what I heard so far.

Last night an ate two handfuls of peanut m&ms and a hot peppermint cocoa. With no grains all day long. I was feeling guilty about not following the keto diet. Ended up with 201 grams of simple carbs. Next morning I had a sugar hangover and had to sleep it off.

Dr. Amen still has the wrong idea about fat intake and weight gain. Eating fat will not put on weight. Eating carbs will pack on the pounds because of insulin spiking. Fat and a little protein will not cause an insulin spike.

I do eat Swiss Cheese for the lactoferrin. I am vegetarian because I don’t like the smell or taste of meat or chicken or fish. I also eat almond butter. I am in my 60s.

what no one seems to take into account, is the fact, that the older a person gets, the less able their bodies are able, to actually absorb the nutrients they need from the food they eat, or even from supplements. So what's the use, if someone puts all the right things into their body, but it can't absorb those? Another problem is with very old people, even if they just started getting confused sometimes, but are then confused enough to get stubborn and behave like children, who don't want to eat the foods good for them, because they don't like them. Additionally, they often have difficulty swallowing supplements, and not everything is available in liquid form. Often, they don't want to eat, or they hardly eat anything at all, and one cannot force them.
What's the solution for all these points?

Thank you so much for the information. I did not know about the importance of choline and omega 3s to make synapses. Very helpful and hope promoting podcast. Thank you.

Don't go by your pant size, measure your waist. I just got this harsh reality a couple days ago. Waist was 4" more than the pant size.

What do you think of L-Argenine, Lions Mane, or Neuro Tonix for memory disorders?

I eat mostly plant based but use a product that has all 72 micro and macro nutrients and 70 to 80 grams of fiber along with Nattokiniace and K2-MK7 and D3, Nitric Oxide, Amla for vitamin C, and Krill Oil for Omega 3. Pluss, I add NMN, Feinstein, and Sirt 6.
