I am afraid of looking for dead/stuck pixels because once you found it you can never look the same at that screen.

I can now say “I’m some kind of a LCD expert myself “

That dark purplish/blue spot after pressure treatment is a pressure mark where the plastic optical layers/filters are damaged. I see it all the time in field monitors that are prone to rough treatment and damage. I've also seen dead and hot pixels or pixel groups spontaneously fixing themselves after leaving the monitor alone for a while, only to leave such a pressure mark behind. It's very clear what the cause of the dead/hot pixels was in that case. Groups of dead and hot pixels can be caused by displaced or damaged spacers in the crystal layer of the panel.

I can confirm that j screen fix worked for me on my TN panel. I left it for about 3 hours and the stuck pixel was gone. Thanks for the hot tip dude 😁

The tilt of your monitor is important too, I fixed my stuck pixels just by tilting the monitor back a little bit, pressing against it can be temperaroy only sometimes if you have your monitor tilted forward, if you're lucky, tilting it back will solve it without you doing anything.

Edit: I didnt expect to help so many people :)

This is one of the top-quality channels I have come across. As a developer I know the information, Thio is sharing is quite valuable.

I appreciate the lesson around monitors. However none of these suggestions worked out. What did it for me was to play around the refresh date of the monitor. It was set to 60 hertz and by switching from 60 to 75 and back, the dead pixels revived (they were stuck). Hope the suggestion works for you.

thank you the pencil trick helped and its definitely improved it! just noticed it about an hour ago and I've only had the monitor for nearly a year now, you'd think a company like HP especially their omen range that this kind of stuff wouldn't happen straight away!

Stuck pixels are weird. Had a couple of them in the past and was able to fix both of them because they were just stuck. A quick Google search for a pixel exerciser which basically is a little box that flashes different colors quickly to exercise that pixel can be placed over the bad pixel and surprisingly if it is just stuck with a color on it, in my case it was green both times, it does fix it. Neat quick easy do-it-yourself fix.

Dead pixels truly suck though. usually a certain number of them have to be dead or you're just forced to use it and rage.

EDIT: after watching the full video you reminded me that I once had to massage a dead pixel back to life as well. Yes really weird but it does work. I had a stuck pixel once and I tried with a microfiber cloth very carefully and gently massaging the small area it was located at being careful not to press too hard because you don't want to see a rainbow effect on the LCD and damage your display. Massaging the pixel I can confirm also does work as well. I've done it, it worked.

So the tldr version for anyone who has trouble with a stuck pixel of a specific color, try the j-screen fix he recommends, I've had it work in the past. I've also had massaging the pixel work as well. I would try Jscreen fix first to avoid touching the display. As long as the pixel isn't completely dead the good news is knowing the right information as he provided in this video you can take Brian and fixing it yourself because often you might get lucky and you can. Good luck everyone with stuck pixels, we feel your pain.

Always buy monitors from stores with a generous refund policy if possible. If the problem shows up late it’s another matter but usually they ship with these problems and you can just return it without having to fight for a warranty exchange.

I like how you wow us with your knowledge of pixels rather than just throw a random solution to pursue.

thank you for making such a thoughtful and insightful video. You have singlehandedly saved the DIY community hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs or user error.

Thank you! Your tutorial was very helpful. The JScreenFix by itself didn't work, but when I combined it with the monitor massage method, it fixed the stuck pixel. I was kind of surprised that it worked lol. Thank you for your help!

You have a 99% chance of getting one stuck or dead pixel on the gaming monitor you just purchased. It's just one of those things that technology isn't perfect.

Well I would highly recommend going for the return route. Unless you buy the shittiest monitor on earth even a class 2 or 3 4K monitor shouldnt have a single dead, stuck or hot pixel. Classifications wanting to make it look as if dead, stuck or hot pixels are common or natural doesnt make it common or natural. Defective pixels are inacceptable.

Laptop screens with very thin diffusers can also get bright spots from too much pressure.
I think the dark spot comes from squeezing out some of the liquid crystals from the area.
