Top 10 Most Reliable Cars of 2020: The Short List

The incredibly picky folks at Consumer Reports have revealed their list of the most reliable cars of 2020. The yearly ranking contains a few surprises, especially number one.

It will come as little surprise that this list is just filled with Japanese models. In fact, only one car on the list is not Japanese.

What is surprising is that there are no Hondas on it. And then there's that number one car again.

The Zoom-Zoom brand had a strong year, claiming 30% of the top ten. It isn’t the only Japanese automaker to pull off that feat either. Lexus and Toyota both matched Mazda for this model year, placing with three models each.

How the hell do you rate reliably on a car not even a year old?!

My 2010 Honda Accord LX-P has 230K miles and still drives beautifully. Paid $22K brand new, fully loaded. Everything under the hood are the original parts except for the starter, battery, and spark plugs. All I do on her is the basic maintenance and I use full synthetic oil and extended performance filters every change. She's never left me stranded, not even one time in 10 years. That's reliability folks!

I have a 2016 Mazda CX-5 with about 71000 miles on it and it has been absolutely perfect. Not a single problem...amazing.

Not sure how you determine a new car is reliable. Tell me after 5 years of service how reliable that model is then I think you could better determine a vehicle is reliable.

ND Miata owner here. I think part of the reason Miatas are so reliable is they’re pretty simple machines. Not a ton of electronics in these cars. The parts aren’t pricey but the quality is good. I’ve had mine 18 months and put 23, 000 miles on it, and have not had a mechanical or electronic issue yet. If you can live with a car this small, buy one. You won’t regret it!

The hard part of owning a Lexus is you don't want to give it up. I love my 2002 Lexus ES300 and doing the recommend maintenance had little problems unlike the GM vehicles I owned. At 167, 000 miles the car still drives like a dream.

Honda needs to step up their game. Their 1.5 turbo, body paint, AC unit failures and infotainment issues need to get resolved ASAP before the brand takes a permanent perception hit.

I'm generally impressed with Mazda with what they are doing over these recent years. Their cars have become more attractive to the eye and now generally giving you value for your money. Kudos to Mazda for that

Hyundai/Kia products have really improved in quality and reliability in the last 10 years! Their entry here is noteworthy as the only non-Japanese winner. Not only is it a winner in the most reliable list, but it also has a 10 year warranty.

My toyota corolla car still runs at 130km/hr and it is 1996 model, now 24yrs old. It's very reliable and durable.
