We have a Mazda and a Tesla. All I can say is….the Mazda is built better. 😂

I want to see reliability after 6 years of ownership. I'd call New cars less than 3 years w/ issues Initial Quality issue rather than reliability....

I don’t believe BMW or Audi for a second.

The only three brands on this list are actually worth talking about our Toyota Lexus and mazda. Reason being, that all the places below them tend to jockey about from year to year and really never repeat. Sometimes Buick GMC and RAM have been in the rankings for the top 10 and then the next year they drop off completely. Remember for about 2 years, 10 years ago Ford was the most reliable American car brand you could get? Yeah, good luck repeating that again. Oh, don't forget about Hyundai. They keep coming back and coming going out as fast as you can count.

CR, Would it be asking too much to have this year's reliability ranking listed alongside the brand's ten year average? 'Unusual' results would then be put in a clearer context. 🤔

I’m surprised to see Honda and Acura so low on the list, and to see BMW and Audi so high .

Good to see companies working on their car's reliability. Most surprising was Subaru, as their Ascent has been proven unreliable in the first few production years. That is why, regardless of brand, I would recommend people to wait a few model years before buying a car. By waiting, the company has had time to fix any issues that may have arisen and you get a more reliable product since they've worked out all the issues. Never buy first year model releases, since it's an unproven vehicle

After decades, US manufacturers (Lincoln excepted for this year) continue their track record of not delivering. Heck, if Kia/Hyundai can go from worst to top ranked, why can’t US companies deliver? Even teeny tiny Subaru and Mazda are competitive. After decades of market share declines, US companies still don’t make the connection between quality and sales.

Wait 10 years and let’s see who’s still at the top. It’ll still be toyota and Lexus

Toyota number 1! No surprise there! They have earned this by decades of hard work and commitment to the long haul unlike the American companies. My wife's new Toyota for $21, 900 is an absolute gem!

KIA ... RELIABLE ? LMFAO
Also Insulting that Audi & BMW are even on this list
Honda is #5 ?

I think reader surveys can be skewed for some cars/brands (especially luxury brands) because human emotion can sometimes supersede objectivity. The person that spends a lot of money on a car usually doesn't;'t want to say it's been unreliable and/or expensive to fix.

I wish they would define better what a "problem" is. One car may not start and another might have a loose sun visor. Do respondents list both of these as "problems?"

I turned off when you said BMW is in top 3

Thanks for this. But... as a subscriber for almost 40 years I used to get the auto survey every year, but no more. Two years ago I called CR and they said I'd be getting the survey again. Still waiting....😕

Kia!? Even with all of the recalls they've had this year?? Not to mention that whole #kiaboys thing.

Is CR counting the Audi A5 and the A5 Sportback as the same car for purposes of reliability?

Close to 200k on my BMW, nothing but regular maintenance. Even Toyota uses BMW engines.

No surprise Toyota & Lexus #1 and #2. That's why our daily drivers are those brands.
