Hey it's Gwendolyn with iFixit, and this is my first video! It couldn't have come at a worse time (watch and find out why).

We got our hands on the new 13" Macbook Air that shipped out Monday after Apple's announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference. So we did what we do best here at iFixit, and we tore it down!

Hope you enjoy this video of the 2013 Macbook Air teardown review.

I suscribed because you are very good at presenting stuff. Really nice, the way she speaks, she's always smiling, great video, very polished.

I love that we get the specs for the battery.

The pentalobe screws are starting to become more common in Apple's devices, and since you have your own supply of 54bit driver and liberation kits, they are not a problem anymore

Gwendolyn is perfect for this role. She's gonna grab so many viewers....
I've seen and got to know a ton of women in my life and Gwendolyn is certainly in a class of her own.

Great job Gwendolyn, especially post tooth surgery! I really don't understand where Apple gets off claiming to be ecofriendly then continuing to make these systems that are not user upgradable simply just to improve their sales.

Please use metric units within the video as well as imperial. :)

I mean, I didn’t understand the explanation for why this computer got a 4, but thanks for trying, lol. There’s a lot I want to learn so that I can keep my devices as long as possible.

So there might be replacement (larger) SSDs in the future, but you have to pick 8GB RAM when you buy it?

You, my friend, are a badass. Not only did you rock this teardown, but you did it on the heels of wisdom-tooth surgery. Way to go!

So you can upgrade your storage? The flash is removable as a chip

Does hopping help? Do you have to do it on one leg or can you use both?
Sorry I had to do it.

What about the RAM ? Can I Upgrade It ??

Yeah, but there's "basic soldering skills", and then there's SKILLS. Many DIYers have the fundamentals down, and can solder or de-solder simple electrical connections (like replacing a blown LED indicator lamp on a PCB). Few, however, actually retain the pro skill level of surface-mount ("SMD") precision-soldering to cleanly perform an upgrade of RAM/Flash memory in one of these proprietary Apple products where they've permanently attached the components to the board (like the '13 Macbook Air).

At 2:12 where the flash memory is shown, it looks as if it is attached to a daughterboard card and not really soldered? But the real question is.. is the RAM/Flash memory available to purchase anywhere? Anybody with soldering skills can likely throw a stick in there..

Also, I'm glad about the change from MJ to Gwen. MJ's voice was very irritating, to say the least. But Gwen... loosen up a bit and get comfortable. You have great public speaking skills, but seem a tad tense. Wear jeans and T!
