In this video, I tell you how to tell if your engine is blown. It is actually a really simple process, and there are a few key things to look out for. The term blown engine is loosely thrown around, but I use it to mean that an engine needs a complete rebuild because there is an internal component of the engine that is broken or worn down beyond function. With that being said, these are a few signs and symptoms of a blown engine that you should look out for in your car if you think that it might need an engine rebuild.

I agree with this list, other than the smoke occurrences. I say this because with diesels, specifically older ones before the year 2003, smoke is extremely common as it is among my 7.3 ford diesel. Doesn’t mean an issue is present.

Yep my engine is blown I knew it. I have dark smoke coming from the exhaust and had a sudden loud knocking noise and violent shaking where I immediately had to pull over and get an employee to come pick me up from work.

November 28th I got my clutch and timing belts replaced. The mechanic said that my car was very well kept and “amazing”. Then October 30th smoke came from the tailpipe, it was an extreme amount like a cloud. The car ran fine and I heard no change. November 7th the car starts making a ticking sound when I would accelerate, I took it home and left it overnight to check on it the next day. Now November 8th the ticking sound is still there, I head over to my mechanic and the car stalls in the middle of the road, every time I tried to start it it sounded seized and would not crank. Pushed it over to a parking lot and tried to jump it, same issue it wasn’t cranking. Got a tow to my mechanic and he is saying the engine is blown but he “has not looked inside the engine”. He said it would be 10k to replace.

My mazdaspeed 3 engine just blew from racing a Mercedes c63, I won but in result, I bunch of white smoke came out the exhaust and a loss of power. I was waiting for AAA to come tow me back to my house which was about 40 miles. After waiting fie 2 hrs and 3 troopers checking up on me( shout out to NJ troopers) AAA told me that couldn't get anyone to tow me..like WTF . They could only get me off the highway.😒 A waste of freaking time. I ended up driving it back to NY only doing 40 on the highway and made it. Thank god for Mazda engines able to take a beating. Q: 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada. Overheated smoke comes from under hood. Lost power fumbled and died. Thick-ish Black fluid under car on road . Whines when trying to start but never does actually start. Blown motor?
