Caring Through Struggle: Caregivers of Children with Incarcerated Parents

Part of the Echoes of Incarceration Project, young filmmakers with incarcerated parents set out to understand some of the hidden consequences of our nations approach to imprisonment. In this first film, the crew journeyed to understand their childhoods being brought up by grandparents, and by extension, the issues caregivers face when raising a child with an incarcerated parent. It involved tough questions, and some surprising realizations that a crew member had more in common with the grandmothers than he expected.

Nice short film! Thanks for sharing this perspective of the issue. It is not often that we think, hear, or talk about the perspective of the caregivers. We need more narratives about the grandparents' and caregivers' perspective because they are so important to the well-being of the children. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for my grandmother, who helped raised me and so many other of my cousins because their parents were incarcerated. Keep up the great storytelling!

The "Justice" system gives zero f about these children. If they did, they would not be incarcerating half of our country, many for non-violent crimes. No thought is given whatsoever by the "justice system" to these children or their family.
