What's worse is people don't want to hear caregivers complaining all the time, but it's lonely and brutal.
❤ and 🙏 to everyone.

What isn't mentioned is how the person being taken care of is often "forgotten" by friends and family in many societies. My husband used to be a very social person. He had a series of strokes and is now disabled and home bound. His parents and sister have all passed away. His "friends" and extended family have basically disappeared. With the exception of a couple of people.

Everybody talks about caring for the caretaker and offering tips to alleviate caregiver burnout, but the facts are we're out here on our own. My days run from 13 to 16+ plus hours daily even with in home hospice services provided. There's very little time to eat and good luck trying to grab a few hours to sleep.

More support for caregivers would definitely go a long way to help ease the stress. I work with families on a daily basis and hear of their anxieties on a daily basis. Many times, the anxieties can be relieved with just a little assurance from a professional. Caregivers don't have anyone to tell them if they're doing a good job or not. That's one thing they need to hear more of.

Caregiving kills the caregiver faster than you think, it's horrible and is wrong for married couples taking care of wifes grandmother

My parents are still fairly independent. I have an older sister and brother who contribute nothing to their care. My parents practically raised their grandson for the first couple of years and were indispensable countless times afterwards - and now get nothing from their oldest daughter. Not every family gets along (mine does not), but it should be made a law that adult children must care or contribute in caring for their elderly parents. This may be too simplistic or impractical due to family dynamics, etc., but it infuriates me that many adult children refuse that responsibility.

I don't know but in Africa we really take good care of our elders and it's an honor for us to take care of them. The all family is around to assist. We don't need caregivers because our children are educated to take care of elders. It's a blessing

It takes a village not only to raise a child, but to take care of the aging population.

Caregiving is essential and it is both an art and a science.

Great video on Assisting Aging Parents. At our law firm we have done over 100 videos to help kids with aging parents get advice from a legal standpoint. Would be great to collaborate on a future video.

Caregiving in the African setting is manipulated slavery. Aging parents who never cared one bit to prepare themselves for the care and finances they would require when they get older expect their siblings or children to handle all their problems with finances that they never put aside. Then the caregivers have to struggle, borrow and fundraise which denies the caregivers their rights to do what the want with their time, energy and money. It's exhausting and downright selfish!!

Vote Bernie so at the very least the caregivers get $15 a hour.
