A Tale of Two Teslas - Used Model S vs New Model 3 - Which comes out on top I EV Talk The Review

In the latest edition of EV Talk: The Review, Ric Boullemier (Generate Media) and Dr Euan McTurk (Plug Life Consulting) put two iconic electric vehicles to the test. Will it be a case of 'there's life in the old dog yet' as Euan reviews his own 2015 Tesla Model S and Ric gets behind the wheel of a Model 3 supplied by the Arnold Clark Innovation Centre in Glasgow for the purposes of the film.

Both Ric and Euan are Model S owners and self-confessed Tesla fanboys, but will the enhanced features of the Model 3 convince them to trade and upgrade, or will they be sticking with what they know and love in the Model S?

EV Talk: The Review is produced by Generate Media supported by the Arnold Clark Innovation Centre on behalf of the FASTER Project. The FASTER Project is an EU funded under the INTERREG VA initiative to deliver new rapid charging infrastructure across Western Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (Border Region). The project is managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Your production value is insane. This channel will be up there with the big dogs in no time. I would put money on it

In the early days of Model 3, the answer was a new Model 3. Nowadays, the 2018-2019 Model S is a solid option
Test drove the latest model S and could tell that the car accelerates more smoothly/less jerky, the air suspension is amazing and makes it a breeze to drive through rough and bumpy roads, the center screen is a bit bigger, more trunk space. The used Model S has my vote and I'm a 2021 Model 3 owner

Ive run my P85 RWD MS for 130, 000 uk miles from new in 2014. I specked no sunroof ( has black carbon roof pannel so lower c of g and no leaks plus Alcantera roof lining ...nice) white with 19" wheels (repainted black) cream leather. With its carobn tail spolier and red calipers it still looks current. Upgraded to MCU 2 and V2.5 door handles x4. 0-60 4 seconds is a tail happy of fun and typical EV traction control will always look after you. Free Supercharging and data link for life whats not to like.

Great review, I love my 2015 MS P85D! Purchased it for $30, 000 USD in May 2023 with extended power train warranty. Before this, I had a 2018 Dodge Charger R/T, I am never going back to internal combustion engine vehicles!

You mention that Ev's are less likely to have to go to repair shop, but you don't mention Tesla's ridicoulus pricing on parts or work to repair said issues!

Damn you, Gents. Been quite happily ignoring Teslas in my 15 months of EV-ing so far….. now you’ve got me thinking!

Good vid - of course! 👍🏻

Nice, keep it up! Crazy sub count. Constructive feedback: intro is insanely loud, maybe 100% louder than the rest of the video. Was very jarring vs the really nice pacing and calming nature of the rest of the video. Really loved it!! Thank you for creating this content.

I'm shopping both used at the moment. One thing u didn't cover is INSURANCE. Model S is FAR more expensive to cover than the 3. I'd miss the power, room, and free super charging of the S. I do maybe 2 long road trips a year(I drove cross country USA and back last year- 5200 miles on one trip).
But the 3 may have more range( I'm shopping long range version) for about the same price, and is cheaper to cover. It's more like a go cart, but less comfy....What do I do? 😫EDIT-I went with the S! P85D- an absolute got insanely expensive insurance at the dealer. One I got the app straight, I went with tesla insurance. SO, SO much cheaper!

Just picked up my p85d for 24.999 and will get a 4k tax credit, not a bad deal for this kind of speed

The hatch, and 22kW AC charging (never available on the 3 or Y!) are killer features of the S in my opinion. The £1400 MCU2 upgrade really improves an older S. After 3 years daily driving my S (also 2015) is still impressive, although it has recently needed a refurbished battery, replaced under warranty.

Impressive quality content, I wish you some serious success.

The 3 main reasons I purchased a used model S over a new model 3 are 1) the model S just looks better, 2) the model S has a dash screen, 3) it drives so much better than a model 3. The M3 ride is very harsh compared to my model S. And yep the lack of center console and door bits is a pain.

I loved the part where I thought you were going to be pulling the ax out and you were pulling the human out of the frunk!

you can get a more recent model S with all the stuff the model 3 is equipped with, including an opening sunroof for the price of the SR model 3. The 2 big screens, the sunroof, parking sensors front & rear, the more accessible trunk, the ambient lights, the much bigger battery and in some cases the free lifetime premium connectivity and supercharger use tells me the S is the one to go for.

Surely this is tongue in cheek with the overly dramatic turns to camera etc? It’s great fun if so!
