Catholic treat tradition and Bible co-equaly. That is blasphemy. Sola Scriptura means we will believe only word of God. Protestant believe in Tradition of Church but it must be Biblical. Trinity, deity of Christ, Eucharist, Baptism, etc are traditional of Church. We Protestant believe that tradition because it is Biblical doctrines. Only word of God Bible is reliable. Tradition always change by centuries. So Tradition is lower than Bible.

So, no you're wrong as usual. I see this straw man every day I am on the internet. Sola Scriptura simply means that all truth necessary for our salvation and spiritual life is taught either explicitly or implicitly in Scripture.

Traditions and Hermeneutics and scholarship can both attribute to the understanding of scripture.

We Protestants know that church tradition is fallible and scripture is not. Just ask Anne Askew.

What does John 16:13 mean since you say people need the teaching authority of the church? Since you say men need the teaching authority of the Catholic Church why do they say Peter was the rock when it’s clear he’s not the rock Jesus was talking about?

Matthew 16:17-19
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
“thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church” what rock is this talking about? Look in the previous verse. “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” The rock is revelation from the Father. God revealed Jesus to Peter. Jesus Christ is the cornerstone the Church is built on. And Peter isn’t the one Jesus gave the keys of the Kingdom of heaven to. He gave the keys to the Kingdom to all the brothers. Everyone in my house has a set of keys to my house. I don’t make them go to one brother to get in. 1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Every Christian is a rock just like Peter. Every person who’s been baptized and asks for the Holy Spirit is given Him.
When I was baptized in the Spirit I became very aware that after I taught my children they would lovingly correct me and I needed to be willing to receive it when I could see that they were right because it was coming from God working in my family. It’s extremely prideful to think men with the same Spirit and Truth at their disposal couldn’t know what you know. Paul was younger in the faith than Peter but rebuked him. Who gave Paul the authority to do that? If God speaks you better listen and be willing to repent.

Sola Scriptura is a novel, man-made and self-refuting doctrine which also happens to be unbiblical. It wasn’t taught or believed for the first 1500 years of Christianity until the prot heresy came along.

So you rely on others to interpret it?

You don't like Sola Scriptura because you're afraid of losing your authority and power. Same goes for why Sunni/Shia scholars don't like Quranism. Throughout history; various religious scriptures were written—them having divine origins or not is up to debate—so that we may follow its commandments. Every single scriptural religion was originally "Sola Scriptura." I can assure you that Moses advocated for "ten commandments only, " Jesus was a Sola Scripturist, and Muhammad was a Quranist. Afterwards, some megalomaniac people recognized that organized religion is an extremely effective way to control and have power over masses. In order to assert their authority over others, they claimed that God's words: "are hard to comprehend, " "are deeper and more complex than they seem, " "require additional guidance, " "can't be interpreted using one's own mind, " "need tradition" etc. They also altered the original scripture and/or fabricated new interpretations in favor of their claims. Their main goal was to make people dependent on themselves, so that they can assert dominance and control over the masses; deviating people away from God, and towards human authorities. To prevent people from saying, "But you are just a human being like us, " they glorified some people mentioned in their respective scripture to divine status, most prominent examples being Jesus and Muhammad. Their plans were mostly successful, and thus gave a rise to a new class of people called the "clergymen." The rise of the clergymen established a thriving dynasty, where decisions regarding theology were based on imperfect humans' discourses. This is obviously a flawed logic, and has turned many intellectuals away from religion as a whole; making them atheists. However, some other intellectuals argued that the issue was not the religion itself, it's the fact that religion is controlled by manmade and imperfect decisions. They had the idea that "if the religion is controlled solely by divine and perfect decisions, the logical flaw would be avoided." Thus, resurrecting the "scripture only" doctrine. This idea has even further evidence and base in Islam; where not only the logic tells you to follow Quran only, but there are several verses in the Quran that explicitly encourage and command you to follow Quran alone; such as 4:87, 6:38, 6:97, 6:114, 7:185, 45:6, and 77:50. The ressurection of the "scripture only" doctrine worried the clergymen, as it was a threat to their thriving dynasty. They were losing their authority, and had to do something about it. Thus, almost every clergymen imposed the belief that the "scripture only" doctrine was "heretic, " and "deviant." In the modern day, where access to information has never been easier, the idea of Sola Scriptura and its equivalents in respective religions are constantly growing; thus the clergymen have never been that afraid of losing their authority and power over masses.

Sola Scriptura is ridiculous. That line of thinking (the Bible proves the Bible) reminds me of the college kids who are asked what a woman is, and they respond with "a woman is someone who claims they're a woman". It's circular logic.

Jesus” words -

Mark 7:8-9 KJV
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. [9] And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

How do traditions help understand the scriptures?

Sola scriptura is an ontological framework, drawing in the nature of scripture. Showcasing that it's the only infallible authority for the church.

I'll add that sola scriptura was a cry for rebellion.. at a time when the middle ages were coming to an end and a great upheaval was unfolding.

Constantinople had fallen, the trade routes east were blocked, a new continent was discovered in the west, printing press had just been invented and monarchical government was under attack across europe. Up was down, right was left and the authority of.. authorities was falling over.

It was a similar time to what we are living through now. The catholic church is holding up very well so far. By contrast the protestants are having a hard time of it right now.

You do not need tradition to understand Scripture..

'But the anointing which ye have received of him abides in you, and you need not that any man teach you: but as the same annointing teaches you of all things, and is truth and is no lie; and just as it has taught you; you will abide in Him'
1 John 2:27

Some Catholic teachings go against scripture. So I ignore them.
