What is Sola Scriptura?

Sola Scriptura is a Latin phrase that means "only Scripture" or "Scripture alone." It was one of the rallying cries of the Reformation.

But what is the significance of this phrase?

Wouldn't it be fair to say that Sola scriptura implies that God's Revelation ONLY occurs in scripture and nowhere else. Doesn't psalm 19 suggest natural and personal revelation is of primal importance in reaching out to unbelievers who deny written scripture?

● 1 PETER 3:19, Peter says that after the crucifixion and death of Jesus, that Jesus "went to speak to the spirits in prison", which means that there is a place people go to after they die that is a prison and not heaven nor hell.
● MATT 12:32 Whoever speaks a word against the son of man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will Not be forgiven, either in this world, nor in the "world to come" This implies that some sins are forgiven in the "world to come" (purgatory)

Yes it is a very modern mentality that we can decide Truth for ourselves. Sola Scriptura has created 30, 000 different “truths” so far. If the Scripture had the Authority then why is any Pastor preaching or teaching and interpreting? And why do churches keep splitting?

Because they don’t hold TRUTH as the highest ideal. It isn’t LOVE it is The Truth that comes from God Himself!

Poorly framed. Science is a method of study and doesn’t question or challenge the Bible. People do that and they use information produced by science as an authority to do so. Actually they use their interpretation of information produced by science and there are always conflicting interpretations and they change over time. Don’t fall for putting science against the Bible.

Sola Scriptura defined as the authority of the "Bible alone" is steel manning the argument. The most accurate representation would be defining it as the authority of your personal interpretation of the "Bible Alone". How else would you get denominations claiming opposite things on mutually exclusive doctrines that can't both be true but all of them having the exact same source they claim to be using...The Bible.

If you believed in Sola Scriptura as a 1st Century Jew - even if you met Jesus you would have to refute him and all he did and his New Passover and his dying and resurrection for our sins. For NONE of that was contained in your Scriptura!

The problem is that you assume the counter to Sola Scriptura is a demotion of the Bible, and that’s wrong. Adhering to the teachings and traditions of the original church is not stripping the Bible’s authority. But you strip the authority of the original church by reinterpretation of the Bible. Put yourself back in the first few centuries, no one you know can afford a copy of the Bible and you can’t read anyway... God left you hanging because he was waiting for the printing press to be invented and for good ole Luther to “discover salvation”. Doubt it.

Which chapter and verse did the bible says it is the final authority? If the bible is the sole truth and authority is from bible ALONE, why are there 40, 000+++ protestant churches? Anyone can read and interpret the bible and if I'm not happy with your interpretation, I just go to open another church?
