Dammit Mike. You just called me fat in such a harsh way and I'm not even offended😂

Cutting out carbs and sugar usually works circumstantially. Cutting out carbs and sugar usually means you're probably picking healthier choices and reducing calories at the same time.

The problem is that sugar is addictive so some people have a small amount then lose control and end up eating far too much. It's easier to just completely give it up than constantly try to break the cycle of addiction.

Moderation is key. That deprivation thing that people do is so self defeating. You just want that food more?and then we tend to overindulge.Have the carbs and sugar in moderation.Like he said as long as you are active and maintain healthy nutrition. You are good. And you won’t feel deprived nor the need to overindulge.

If you're just talking about maintaining bf% then sure.
But know that refined sugar is pretty much poison to the body, just as alcohol is, just as medications are.
A little won't hurt you. Much. A chocolate bar isn't terrible.
But if that becomes a large and regular part of your diet, it is far from optimal.

Systemic inflammation is a major health issue, and sugar exacerbates it.

Personally, for a time when I was having large amounts of sugar, I started getting the worst muscle cramps imaginable. Neck, back, legs. Excruciating.
Cut the sugar and it all went away.
Still have a bit now, but minimal.

Our sports team were trained by two army instructors for a few years. Some of the toughest training I've done. Coming from a bodybuilding background I wanted to talk about nutrition, in my opinion the teams eating habits wouldn't have been great and most would go out on weekends but in fairness trained hard all week. The instructor said it didn't matter what you ate training this hard it would just be burned off as fuel. I had my doubts but at the start of the next season despite all of the above the lads were shredded and in the shape of their lives.
I remember watching navy seals in training shoveling down thousands of calories in pizza slices and it all made sense.

I think you’re missing the point on this one. I’ve heard Dana talk about this before and the big thing with carbs is that he wouldn’t stop eating once he started. For a lot of people cutting carbs and sugar removes a lot of the addictive effect it has

I want to be healthy and have the best health I possibly can, i eat less than 50g of processed carbs/sugar every few days and that’s what’s been making me feel my best.

Mike is a smart guy and I know he needs to make concise, declarative statements for engagement on social media platforms, but this is a slight generalization.

Of course, caloric expenditure is far-and-away the most important variable that determines body composition, but controlling the timing and severity of insulin responses you have to food throughout the day is also a useful tool in any health-oriented person's routine.

If you want to optimize your insulin sensitivity which will benefit both your overall health AND how good you look with your shirt off, you should try and limit simple sugars to around workouts (or other high energy expenditure activities)...and consume lower-glycemic carbohydrate sources (which almost always have more micronutrients anyway) to other times of the day.

Sugar is a addictive and makes u much hungrier all day, it also is found in the extremely calorie-dense foods like chips, candy, doughnuts, etc

But even if we’re giving Dr Mike the calories in vs calories out premise he’s mentioning:

if u eat enough protein,
“Most” of your carbs come from “fruit, veggies, whole grain”,
Getting enough fats,
ALL whilst NOT going over total calories

Is it then mathematically possible to still have high amounts of carbs and sugar?

After all that?
I’d argue not really

Carbs and sugar spike your insulin way more than protein and fat. Sugar increases inflammation which clogs the arteries. So I don’t think it’s as simple as simply calories in and calories out.

Thanks for saying so Dr. Mike!
I'm 66 years young, 34+ years whole foods vegan, calisthenics fit, on no meds, PEDs, TRT and all my parts work. I eat tons of carbs and fruit and maintain a weight similar to my teen years. Always consistent. Lots of top athletes are whole food vegan, like Kyrie Irving.
