Mama Cass Elliot's reaction is so good. She recognized a true talent being introduced to the world. This was at the Monterey Pop Festival and I lived in Monterey for a decade. Every time I drove by the Monterey County Fairgrounds I'd wonder what it must have been like back in 1967 when it was going on and wishing I had a time machine.

Mama Cass in the audience was stunned by the performance, as was the rest of the public. Our reaction was one of awe and disbelief.

Janis' performance at Monterey got her signed. Apparently, Mama Cass wasn't the only one who was impressed.

Janis gave her whole heart and soul with every performance. She was a force of nature that burned so brightly for such a short time. She will go down in history.

This was her first major concert performance.

Imagine being there and witnessing this performance for the first time. There was no YouTube, no Spotify, no internet. This was truly Janis’ coming out party. It was no longer Big Brother & The Holding Company, it was all Janis.

Was so thrilled I saw Janis live in Calgary, AB a few months before she passed. She was such a soul blues entertainer I just had goosebumps every-time she performed. RIP Janis

There will never be another be another Janis, rest her soul. A reactor once said about her, her voice makes you feel like she could win a bar fight and also hold you in her arms and make you feel like everything will be alright.

No matter how many times I see this performance, I'm still amazed at how she completely nailed the ending, the last word 'chain'. It could not have been any better. I mean, she KILLED it! Just unreal... 😎

She grew up in the same area as Johnny and Edgar Winter. Lot of good music from the Golden Triangle of Texas.

Back in the wonderfully tarnished era of raw emotional music talent when concerts weren't overly rehearsed with every move practiced and choreographed right down to hair flips and fake smiles. Just go on stage, live in the moment, and let the music possess you. I would take back row tickets to this concert a thousand times over rather than the best front row seats at any auto-tuned fluff-pop concert these days!

Don't know if somebody has already said... But that performance was her second one of the day... That was her debut in the morning time and she blew people away so they told her to return for the evening performance when all of the big music stars of the day would be there.
