That looks hauntingly similar to some labs i have seen along the years. Especially those of physical chemists tend to be more ... along the creative side ;)

@EEVblog, Dave, in one of my old labs/office I did this. Take your whiteboard off its stand and attach it with hinges to the long shelf along one edge perhaps the left. Hot glue some magnets to hold it firmly on the non-hinge side. It hides the clutter, you have a whiteboard that is out of the way and access to your shelves. Works a treat. You can do it to the shorter one as well hinged on the right. If it hangs over the end of the shelf, it may not matter. Also, Roman style or velcro attached canvas curtains hanging from the top shelf works pretty good too. Personal preference.

One comment; when you get that bench that juts out 90 degrees from the wall, make sure you use triangles in the construction or it'll wobble like mad.  I remember you're not keen on mounting anything to the wall, so use triangles or it won't be sturdy.  well done on the organization; I recently did the same and I couldn't be happier.

Shelves are good in a lab; lots of shelves - you need more. Building prototypes and one-offs is a delight when you can just walk over to the shelves and pull the parts you need for the build.

Dave, take the whiteboard off the stand and attach it to a wall, use it as a big wall planner - something you can just turn around and look at; people these days are like "oh, buts its all in my phone" - Pfft, nothing like having a big will planner where you can see what is coming up and when you have to do things by.

I think a center island bench would be quite epic with a hanging over head light or track lights, kinda like a kitchen.  I also think it'd be a bit better to swap the wide shelf with the narrower one next to it to make access to the corner a bit easier.

You DEF have to do a tear down of the till.  Always wanted a till when growing up :)

With the postcards just use a wall to put them all on.  At my sisters house instead of old photos sitting in a draw, they have a photo wall with a lot of the photos on.

looking good, and yeah it always feels good to cleanup the work space, I did some of that as of recent, got rid of some unneeded junk, but still need to organize stuff like cables, and the like so I can find them faster when I need them.
