I used to design cable wiring production test systems with Agilent 4339B high resistance meters. I've done a video on that somewhere...

Love the way you go into the details of what would look like trash for regular folks : )
Two thumbs up!

That would be interesting. Will see if that's possible with the gear I have...

I seen those UPS systems and it took me back . I worked for a huge UPS company and we had a contract to provide maintenance repair and updates . I spent 3 weeks over there working on that same type . All I had to replace was a blown rectifier diode and blown fuses . The company sent me there 3 weeks to fix it. I fixed it in 4 house . If you see KLH on the UPS systems it was me that worked on it.

Please ask on the forum. You'll get a better and quicker response.

Very nice score! Looking forward to the tear downs of the units you plan on keeping.

Peta ohms very quickly becomes pretty much a practical limit for all sorts of practical reasons, unless maybe you were in the vacuum of space or something. I've never heard of a meter that goes much higher. e.g. the top line HP4339B. Throw test voltage into the mix and it's messy business.

Great score !!! Can't wait for the tear down...

Gear! i had that very frequency counter when i was at uni, it's a great piece if kit! good on you Dave, congrats.

I was the guy who was bidding on the other pallets. Can't believe I was bidding against you. Enjoy your videos and interesting to see the Cal lab videos. Especially since I recognize the equipment and the 50GHZ PNA.

Nice score, Dave. The counter and frequency standard alone is worth the money you paid. Those decade resistor boxes could also be quite useful. Did you notice the name of the conditioning officer on the tags hanging from the resistance boxes? Mr. Warren Jones.

Have a crack at PowerChute with those UPSes. You can set output voltage on battery, low-voltage transfer, high-voltage transfer, sensitivity, shutdown commands, email alerts. Great fun.

You can also turn these things on while unplugged by holding the power button for a few seconds. Maybe you need to charge your phone on the go...

Holding the power button for a few seconds while plugged in will make the UPS enter a self test mode, although this is scheduled to happen every two weeks by default.

Well, it WAS a single shot video at least!

A UPS is usually only kept for two battery changes and dumped after that.

We purchased 9 similar APC UPS. They were 3000 VA capacity and all 9 were bad on delivery. The heavy power xformers had pulled their screws right out of the threads which were made by deforming the thin sheet metal case into a (short) cylinder and tapping it. Four of the replacements were bad as well! When we finally got 9 working we found that when AC input disappeared they tried to boost the voltage before switching to battery. That was enough to cause the loads to shutdown. Useless for us.

I would love to find an auction like that around here. I'm sure we have them but I wouldn't know where to even look.

Cool beans. I'm really interested in the resistance and reference standards. Open em up!

The tolerance that decade resistor was "out of" is .01%? What a find! Ultra-precision equipment sold on the cheap because it has drifted to being only super-precision equipment. Fantastic.

Use the USP system to make a stationary tazer (great way to secure a office, eg if someone breaks in, find some way to make them come in contact with a 15 amps+ 240 volts. After a few full battery discharges worth, they will seriously rethink their line of work.
