How and why to break into #Cybersecurity #GRC from business @ Cloud Security Office Hours

Clip from Aug 2 Cloud Security Office Hours: "My thing is I'm an accountant who got into GRC 4 years ago and really enjoyed that transition. And I went from thinking that wasn't possible as a person with a business profile to that myth being busted to breaking in being part of the GRC team leading the team. And now I want to invite more people to do what I did coming from a business background. For those technical engineers in the room here and the breakers and the red teamers I get it: if I had your skills and I'd spent ten thousand hours understanding systems so well I could break into them I'd probably rather do that too, because that is super cool. But my ten thousand hours has been being a finance business partner, business administration, being an accountant and there are some valuable skills in this team sport of cybersecurity that people with that background can bring to the table, if they have a continuous learning mindset and if they're happy to get more technical."

Inspiring, I have a bachelor in technology and held 7 IT certifications but I still couldn’t get hired into IT even as helpdesk because I didn’t have experience. I just got laid off as a Radio Administrator while on a probationary period, so now Im going straight to the top earning my master of science in information systems and studying for cissp. GRC is my first goal to becoming Director of IT then CISO.
