Dear God pls don’t do this to your leather boots. I am shoe cobbler and leather repair, this will 1 it will dry out the leather and cause premature cracking, 2 the metal shank that provides arch support for your feet will rust and crack therefore making them uncomfortable. Take your boots to a shoe Repair and get them professionally stretched.

If they’re work boots just hit it with some boot oil and wear. The oil will not only soften the leather but will add protection vs water which will just dry the boot out. If the boots are meant to look good, they would just have to break them in by wearing them at home a little at a time until they start to get more comfortable

This is stupid. First buy quality boots that actually fit. Then put on some thick socks, and walk around. If you wet the inside of your boot, you will destroy the insole.

As a salesman and cobbler of high-quality leather footwear, I feel obligated to say... DO NOT DO THIS.

1. You will most likely void your warranty

2. The adhesives and materials on the inside of the boots generally aren't tested or designed for water saturation. They will likely deteriorate prematurely from excessive moisture.

3. There are products on the market to help get a better broken in feeling, like leather stretching spray and conditoning oils.

Always be fitted correctly by an expert with the appropriate equipment, and try before you buy!

We used to break in our Cochran Jump Boots the same way - buy ‘em on a Friday - wet them down and wear them around the barracks all weekend - stand formation on Monday with your new jump boots lookin all “strack” !!
