The Ending of Nope (2022) Explained.

Here's my analysis, reaction and explanation of Jordan Peele's "Nope", starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, & Brandon Perea.

#Nope #NopeMovie #EndingExplained

In this video I analyze end of the Gordy's Home sitcom and the affect it had on Ricky "Jupe" Park. I explain everything you need to know about the alien UFO we know as "Jean Jacket". Then I talk about the subtext of the film, and further analyze the characters of Holst, OJ (Otis Jr.) and Em (Emerald).

What I really liked about this movie was that it’s very different from other alien movies, other alien movies tend to be end of the world type stuff, but this one doesn’t and it feels more local in a way, I also love the fact that the ufo/uap itself isn’t a ship but an actual living thing, which makes realize how little we actually know

The horse OJ has at the beginning that he takes to sell to Jupe is Lucky. Spoilers to follow—
Lucky doesn’t get sacrificed because Ghost is untamable and gets out of his pen on his own. So the night Lucky is supposed to be sacrificed, he got “lucky” because Ghost escaped and got snatched up. Same thing happens next time around, Emerald stole the horse statue from Jupe and his kids got revenge by letting Clover out, making Clover the next victim instead of Lucky. By this time, OJ has realized what Jupe is up to and goes back to get Lucky when the alien kills all the people at the show, leaving Lucky because he stayed in the cage. Lucky survives the entire movie and is the horse that OJ rides to capture evidence of the alien. I thought that was pretty neat and my favorite part of the whole movie.

I loved the fact that Jean Jacket had no human-like features. We tend to design our media extraterrestrials to resemble our physiology, which is arrogant presumption on our part.

The reason for the low attendance at the Star Lasso Experience was because it was the first time he invited an audience to the show, combined with the bad storm coming (reducing overall park attendance). You even see people still holding their cellphones and recording JJ before it gets too close. The only reason nobody was able to bring home recorded footage was because they all died.

I think the use of the name OJ was significant. In terms of how the media made such a spectacle of the OJ Simpson trial. Jean Jacket was like the helicopter flying over OJ while driving away in his Bronco. But I think the intention was more to explore race and what the media or Hollywood chooses to highlight or hide. The first film captured a black jockey riding a horse but history only highlights the horse.

Oooo. I dont think Jupe was doing a show each week. He was just feeding the monster each week. And then the show we see in the movie is his first show in front of people.

The reason the chimpanzee didn't attack Jupe was because the table cloth from the table was in-between their line of vision. This acted as a buffer between their view of each other and removed the reflection the chimpanzee saw in the other cast's eyes.

It occurred to me that Jupe COULD have gone to a horse auction and bought old, broken down horses that were destined to become glue or dog food, but, NO! He bought well bred, in their peak horses from OJ. Lucky is even referred to as the ranch’s second best horse. It really ties into the spectacle aspect of the movie.

He’s definitely alive in the end. what we see with him backing away. looking the ufo in the eyes. THAT WAS THE AGREEMENT it was the same as Jupe and gordys fist bump agreement. Which was why Jupe was spared. This was discussed earlier in the film. animals in the wild to train you need to make an agreement with.

The digestion scene traumatized me lol. I saw it last night and it triggered a night long panic attack that I'm still recovering from. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but there's something to be said for the immersion of the movie

The big connection that struck me as I left the theater was the use of balloons or inflatables. The balloons popping are what set off Gordie. They used an army of inflatable tube people to track Jean Jacket. The flags attached to the decoy horse are made of similar material. A giant balloon is what did Jean Jacket in and JJ itself was very reminiscent of a balloon (its digestive tract seemingly looking like similar material too). It all seemed to purposeful to be a coincidence.

This is definitely a movie worth watching over and over again and analyzing every detail.

Gordy was a representation of mankind. When someone is controlled, they're liable to snap when you least expect it and over the smallest thing. Gordy was controlled and snapped over the sound of balloons popping on his birthday of all days. The movie was also about class, greed and the pitfalls of living in the past.

Honestly, one of the most interesting thoughts I’ve had that I haven’t seen anyone else talk about, is that Jean Jacket may not be an alien. I mean, obviously we have no idea what it is and I understand that NOPE can mean Not Of Planet Earth; but there is nothing in the movie that tells us it is extraterrestrial. That particular fact is just an assumption that we, the audience, and the characters make. There is no actual evidence that JJ isn’t just some unknown thing that has hunted the skies of earth for 1000s of years, like an arial shark, prehistoric. Maybe JJ is one of many, an “angel”, an ancient creature that some ancient people might have confused for the divine and maybe even worshiped it or gave it sacrifices. Missing colonies? Could just have been a JJ. We know it needs to eat, and pretty regularly, which would be hard in space. So if anything, all evidence points to it being OF earth and not from space.

Obviously the movie is framed as though JJ is an alien, but I just think it’s interesting that we never actually learn that. The movie lets us make that assumption ourselves, let’s us make up our own backstory and reasons for the strange spectacle before us.

Honestly one of my favorite alien depictions because it feels lovecraftian and was both horrifying and beautiful

The part where all those people get eaten and we see the inside of Jean Jacket was fucking terrifying

I liked the final shot of the movie, with OJ sitting on Lucky while being 'framed' by a gate. It looked like a picture and reminded me of the 'Horse in Motion' clip that was so prominent in the movie (featuring OJ's ancestor too).

I really love how you started to show yourself in the videos more and not hiding behind the screen. Enjoy watching you ❤

nice vid! my girlfriend and i think it was a dark angel. if you look up a biblically accurate angel, you’ll see that the shapes are somewhat similar and all have that center eye. the movie also opens with a bible quote and the tech guys name is angel👀

I sadly (or happily rather) only recently came across your content so have been binge watching it. I absolutely love your takes here and more so would love to see you and Jordan Peele talk about the themes because I feel like you nailed them. The way you articulated your consumption theory is brilliant.
