WORD!! As the "knife guy" in my local friend troop, I'm asked for a knife, to open something, or separate thing A from thing B at least a couple times per week minimum. So, 5th reason: To be the hero with the sharp thing.

The time and place I grew up, everyone carried a pocket knife. Today, I find it so strange that the vast majority of people do not. My pocket knife has been a life saver, cleaning battery terminals to get a vehicle to turn over, convenience, cutting the wires to a horn at the scene of a car wreck, opening packages, cutting the steel bands of shipped items and all sorts of time saving uses. I'm never without it.

Many years ago a friend of mine ran off the road and ended up upside down in the barrow pit between lanes on a major interstate highway during a blizzard. She was trapped by her seatbelt holding her head cranked to the side, cutting off blood to her brain and disrupting her circulation. If she’d had a knife within reach she could have cut herself free from her predicament. Her car became completely buried under the snow. She had managed to turn on the overhead interior lights and after three days, the glow from her lights were spotted by an airplane and she was rescued. The lack of blood flow left her a quadriplegic. I had carried a pocket knife since boyhood but her accident was all it took for me to keep a knife handy on my sunvisors ever since and the one I ALWAYS have on my front pocket…is sharp and easy to access. Like a handgun, better to have it and not need it than to have a critical need but not having it handy. Be prepared.

Steak knife? My go to is my Boker Ti Brad Zinker Urban Trapper. Max blade length for the handle and VG10 steel which is adequate for its purpose. And light, looks awesome too.
First Q: ‘Can borrow a knife” prompts the answer….what are you needing to cut? It matters.

That's why I carry a SAK huntsman. I use the little blade for packaging, and the big blade for food. That way I don't have to worry about getting any tape residue or microplastics in my food. It's also nice to have a tiny pair of scissors and a saw.
