I've been waiting 20 years to hear this.

Toxic parents knows they are toxic and will say or do things to trigger their traumatized children. I've seen kids tried to resolve the problem..but parents are too stubborn. So the kids just limit contact for peace.

People fail to realize honoring does NOT mean you can not speak the ugly truth AND people fail to realize that honoring and forgiving DOES NOT MEAN STAY.

No amount of telling them will fix anything. They know right from wrong.

Honor means respect. I can respect my mother but not have her in my life or let her know anything I have going on. Just like I have old friends & there’s no drama between us. We just don’t kick it no more.

This was good. I was listening, but my case wasn't sexual. All abuse from my parents was physical, emotional and even financial. It's rough, 5hey act like it never happened, never apologized AND don't care to help as I try to live an adult life with the hurt. Sometimes healing takes longer than expected... Thank you too the brave person who asked during the chat 💙

Wow, this one really speaks to me. After growing up mentally, physically, emotionally, & verbally abused, and identifying destructive behaviors in my own relationships as an adult, I was able to make peace with my past, acknowledging the abuse that occurred in my childhood and forgiving my parents as He forgave me. However, when the parental abuse continues into the present even after you explain how their behavior hurts you, I believe it is acceptable to establish healthy boundaries. I can love and forgive them without subjecting myself or my family to continued abuse. Being a Christian does not mean we have to be anyone's door mat. JMHO

I thank God for parents who have never abused me but only protected me!

My father was always a dishonourable man. He would always lie, never accept responsibility, blamed others for everything, and threw temper tantrums in public over the smallest things that would often get him kicked out or banned from work.
Even when i was a wee child, my mother would send me to tag along with him on his drunken benders while he'd drive drunk with me in the front seat.

I love my parents, but they half-assed a lot, and I had to raise myself.
I wouldn't put my kids through that, even though I inherited my ancestor's demons and addictive tendencies. Being raised Chinese in a Western country was a living nightmare for me.

No matter how dishonorable my parents have been unto me, I can’t help but to honor and respect them. Even if it’s from a distance. “God’s Grace will always superabound”.

Thank you for this. I’ve toiled back and forth on whether or not I dishonored my mother by staying away because of the abuse she allowed at the hands of my step father. Or if I’m dishonoring my dad by staying away because he chooses to dip in and out of my life when the wind blows. Thanks for confirming they had dishonored me. I spoke my peace to them both RESPECTFULLY. For my mental health I’ll stay away.

My parents are horrible. At 29 years old they are still horrible. But i am learning forgiveness, coping mechanisms, and boundaries to maintain a healthy mind and a healing relationship toward my parents and most of all myself. Peace
