Even if you build relationships with your mechanic, they still try overcharging you sometimes. I went to a mechanic for 2-3 years for maintenance. My last service was to have all the brake pads and rotors replaced. The next 2 visits I went for an oil change and just to change the brake pads. They gave me a quote, however, the quote included replacing the rotors again which did not need to be replaced, even though I told them I just wanted to change the brake pads. I never took my car there again and it's sad because he was actually a good mechanic, but some customers can't be fooled and will take their business elsewhere if you try overcharging them. Work with integrity, you will get a lot of business and make a lot of money by doing so, you don't have to try overcharging, that's greed.
