Wonderful teaching! Jesus didn't abolish Sabbath, but redefined the Sabbath from rigid man-made Jewish regulations! If we follow the Pharisee logic, we would better stay lying down as if we were corpses. Even in the Torah, it is always emphasized to rest on Sabbath, not doing "regular" work, which are working for money and everyday menial tasks we have to do. It is not prohibiting the Bible reading/studying, refreshing recreational activities (hiking, biking, etc. that energize us), healing, doing any good work, or any necessary work such as tieing and untieing your donkeys to give them water. We don't want to starve us or our animals. Just don't make yourself tired, for this is the day of resting. "Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath, " says the Lord of Sabbath. The devil makes us keep working to the point of getting ourselves sick, but our Creator wants us to rest and be refreshed. What a wonderful God He is! He is the Best!
I don't know why such a brilliant pastor as John MacArthur thinks that means the abolishment of Sabbath. We should always remember God's Word/Law never changes: Psalm 119:89; 89:34; Isaiah 40:8. We shouldn't follow men's words that try to justify his preferences or seminary theology. Let's try to follow God's Word/Law. Jesus says, "Take my yoke upon you, ... for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt 11:29-30).
