You have to wonder what his first words were hearing palpatine was cloned

But I feel that Luke doesn't inherit the traditional values of a Jedi... Jedi weren't meant to have attachment, yet Luke's attachment to his friends and father is what allowed him to overcome the dark side that had taken hold of his father

I mean the idea of Vader redemption was FAMILIAL LOVE, so it only stands to reason Luke would look favorable on that have a family himself.

I feel Luke getting married adds to him being the prefect jedi. He realized attachment was a powerful asset but at the same time made sure his emotions didn’t consume him like Anakin. He found a balance and that’s why he was so powerful.

This is one area where I COMPLETELY disagree with George, if true.

One of my favorite things of the old EU was that Luke's New Jedi Order was very progressive; he specifically looked at the failures of the Old Jedi Order regarding his father, and believed that attachment shouldn't be demonized.

In short, Luke's Jedi were allowed to have loved ones so as to avoid ever creating a second Darth Vader. If Jedi kept to their views on love shown in the prequels, I think a second Vader is inevitable.

The Emperor doesn't get cloned ...Jar Jar Abrams clearly didn't get that memo.

As a kid, let’s just say I discovered why I like red heads in latex leather.

This is so odd to me considering how I've always considered the prequels as a cautionary tale about the Jedi. The celibacy and lack of attachments were rules that led to a weaker order, and directly to Anakin's downfall. It was Luke's love for his friends and his father that gave him his strength, and would allow him to establish a stronger order.

Lucas has very clearly said that Jedi are NOT celibate.

"As the creator of Mara Jade..."

George wanted to repeat exactly what was wrong with the jedi as a whole and the order. Luke wasn't raised into the jedi so he would be the one to break it

I'm sure he likes Mara Jade better than Mary Sue Rey Palpatine. Maybe.

This has already been de-bunked by author Michael A. Stackpole. If George Lucas hated Mara Jade, he wouldn't have approved her as part of the EU. Remember, everything in the Expanded Universe had to go through Lucas's approval, and if he didn't like something or if he felt a story went off track, he'd veto it.

George Lucas was also very much a fan of the EU, he gave several guidelines to authors, and also gave many ideas for the books. Lucas and writer Tom Vietch came up with the plotline for Dark Empire, where the authors originally wanted someone to dress like Darth Vader, George Lucas hated the idea and instead allowed them to bring back the Emperor.

Accordingly, the quote you use from Lucas is grossly taken out of context. Lucas did say the EU ran parallel to his films, but in a way that mirrored his films, not necessarily were separate from them.

Leland Chee went on to explain:

”Parallel universe” suggests that each universe can go in separate directions which really isn't the case with regard to the EU. The EU is bound by what is seen in the most current version of the films and by directives from George Lucas."

That’s crazy because she is one of my favorite characters.

I can't remember where I saw it, so take this comment with a grain of salt y'all.
But I distinctly remember an interview where George Lucas himself said that Jedi don't take vows of celibacy. They can have all the sexual encounters they want. It's ATTACHMENTS that they are forbidden from. This is why the whole conflict of Anakin Skywalker marrying Padmé was a driving element of the prequel trilogy.

Dark Horse and the Novels version of Star Wars extended universe is my favourite! I spent my adolescence, teens, twenties and early thirties reading these. In my opinion they took it and made it better! And I love Mara Jade! Hand of the Emperor was a fantastic story!

well he sold it, also the celibacy thing led a lot of people turning to the dark side so yeah

The EU is still more canon then the sequels.
