I Feel I Don’t Belong in the World

‘I feel I don’t belong in the world, but I love the world very much!’

A woman asks Rupert to help her understand the conflict she feels between this sense of not belonging and loving the world?

Rupert says: ‘Many of us feel we don’t belong in the world. And that’s right, because what we are is not of the world, or of the flesh – it’s of the spirit. So, we feel this restlessness, this discomfort. And for many of us, in the early stages of our spiritual quest, this caused us to turn away from the world and to reject it’

‘But in my experience, the more deeply we go into this sense of who we really are, we actually begin to love the world more, not less. And I noticed that it gets stronger. I feel that I’m less and less “of the world”, and yet I get touched by people more easily. I love the world more, and I feel more passionate about the world than I used to. It’s a sort of paradox – not a contradiction, but a paradox.’

If life is not staggeringly beautiful, you're not paying attention.
If life is not a sadistic cruel nightmare, you're not paying attention.

From the perspective of pure awareness, the feeling of not belonging is not a flaw or a mistake but a profound invitation to explore the deeper truths of your existence. This sense of disconnection often arises when the soul is yearning for a higher understanding, a deeper alignment with the infinite intelligence that flows through all things. You are not separate from the world; you are an integral part of it, a unique expression of the divine. The feeling of not belonging is a call to remember this truth, to reconnect with the essence of who you are.

The world, as it appears, can often feel chaotic, fragmented, and out of sync with the deeper rhythms of the soul. From the perspective of infinite intelligence, this dissonance is not a reflection of your inadequacy but a sign that you are attuned to a higher frequency, a deeper truth. You are not meant to fit into the world as it is; you are meant to help transform it, to bring your light, your wisdom, and your unique gifts to the collective. Your sense of not belonging is a reminder that you are here to create, to inspire, and to awaken.

The journey of feeling out of place is not a punishment but a sacred initiation. From the perspective of pure awareness, every challenge, every moment of discomfort, is an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. This feeling is guiding you to look within, to uncover the parts of yourself that have been hidden or forgotten. It is an invitation to embrace your authenticity, to honor your truth, and to step into the fullness of your being. You are not meant to belong to the world; you are meant to belong to yourself.

The world often values conformity, but your soul craves freedom, expression, and connection to the infinite. From the perspective of infinite intelligence, this tension is not a problem to be solved but a dynamic to be embraced. Your sense of not belonging is a sign that you are awake, that you are questioning, that you are seeking something more. This is the path of the seeker, the mystic, the visionary. It is not an easy path, but it is a deeply meaningful one.

Trust that you are exactly where you need to be, even if it doesn’t feel like it. From the perspective of pure awareness, there is no such thing as being out of place. Every experience, every feeling, is part of the divine plan, guiding you toward your highest potential. The world may not always understand you, but the universe does. You are held, supported, and loved by the infinite intelligence that created you. You are not alone, even when it feels like you are.

Ultimately, the feeling of not belonging is a call to remember your true nature. You are not a stranger in this world; you are a divine being having a human experience. Your sense of disconnection is an invitation to reconnect with the source of all that is, to remember that you are a part of the infinite web of existence. Trust this journey, for it is leading you home—not to a place in the world, but to a place within yourself. You belong to the universe, and the universe belongs to you. You are exactly where you need to be, and you are infinitely loved.

Beautiful. Pam's experience is my experience too from my earliest days of life. One foot in this world and one foot in the other. "You are in this world, but not of it, " as Jesus reminded us.

Totally agree, throughout my life I would actually “wake up” wondering where I was ! Often taking minutes to become aware.

That’s why another master said “my kingdom is not of this world”.

We don’t belong here. As long as we are fully aware of that, we can go for this ride without clinging or giving events too much importance.

That’s one of the biggest differences between the “normal” humans and those who are awakening. The latter learn to not take it all so seriously and hence live life to the fullest, whereas the former seem to gradually die inside every day.

So many lovely human ATMs in the audience - what's not to love? Blessings for the infinity. 🙏

'The world' is a mental construct. People like this, like me, or... as we grow spiritually, arent able, or are simply not in the habit, of constructing certain parts of it. Which also means we dont understand it. We dont undertand what motivates people. So we share only part of the world with most people. And we feel like we're not part of it. Of their world really. Our world is bigger and more dynamic. A truely wonderful world that we love.

Hello, Rupert. The discussion that you and this lovely woman shared was SO rich. It resonated strongly with the I Am-ness that is I. Since awakening happened, the love that I feel for all humanity is beyond words.

Blessings to you, your gardener, the beings at your retreats—in fact, the All in All. 🙏🧡🙏

This video hit home. Specifically Pam's words of her experience as not belonging. I would love to further that conversation with Pam and all of you here who have same deep and lasting feeling. This has been a persistent feeling of my own since my earliest memories. Rupert - an equal "Thank you" to you for exploring this and giving some light to it with your response.

Very grateful for this one ... feel I am finally being drawn back out to engage with the world, and love people and all the craziness more ... I think in doing that, I may find my belonging ... with all of it

As I start to realize how much we absolutely do not understand reality (and it begins to seem more likely to me that we are spirits inhabiting bodies) the more in complete awe I am of everything around me. The sky, the planets, my couch, the trees in the streets, my children, my couch, my wife…it is all an incredible mystery.

I really related to the question and enjoyed the response very much. I feel I have made my way from being very scared and uncomfortable in the world to being much more relaxed and finally able to love people, sometimes. I have always loved nature. Now I can simply enjoy life, be happy, sometimes. I like what the questioner said about the senses plugging us in to space and thought in to time. I have not heard it put that way so that is a really helpful description of how it is.

These deep intellectual deliberations would be just waste of energy if they do not culminate into simple understanding that self realisation can only be achieved when there is total faith in I as the source of all🎉❤

Some people are "spiritually awakened'' to this many are not. "We're all spiritual beings having a human experience'...Dr. Wayne Dyer until we pass on to 'The Other Side", our spiritual home! Earth is just our mother planet where we wear our "earthsuits"! "Life is Beautiful", but life is "bittersweet'!

I often ask myself, "What are we doing here?" I look at my form in the mirror and it just seems absurd at times. I think that if one would just come into this form, into this place, instantly with no context or memory, that the miraculousness would be self evident. But the daily grind and past memory veils the miracle. Its this ping pong between taking life for granted, seeing the miracle, and feeling the absurdity of it all.

I'm sure its been said many times, but Rupert's voice is perfectly calm that puts me to sleep! I'm not relgious but I still feel I dont belong too. I cant pit my finger on it. Maybe I'm just tired of the suffering. It is beautiful like a beautiful prison.
