Fortunately for you, fixing a running toilet this way isn't really hard and with a little effort, you can completely fix your running toilet FOR GOOD!

Thanks for watching! I'm Roger Wakefield, LEED AP, The Expert Plumber and welcome to my channel. On this channel, I teach homeowners how to save money on their plumbing by doing DIY plumbing projects. I also teach plumbers and plumbing company owners how to be the best plumbers in their area and run successful plumbing businesses. My goal is to teach you everything you need to know about plumbing.

I got tired of waiting for my husband to fix the constant running toilet, and I thought about calling a plumber but decided to do a Google search first and try myself. I came across your first "How to Fix a Running Toilet GUARANTEED" video and this one. After watching both videos, I removed the fill valve out of my toilet and brought it with me to the hardware store. I found a replacement and replaced the old fill valve ALL BY MYSELF with zero plumbing experience. Amazing. The cost was $8 and the time it took was only about 30 minutes but the experience and pride I feel is worth so much more. Thank you, Roger!

Idk how I can thank you. Our master bathrooms toilet was running and ever plumbing company was charging 80 to 90 bucks to just come look, not including the part/labor. If I could like a million times I would.

Great vid. Going to use this with my students. The only thing I haven't seen (yet) in your vids is a mention of how chlorine weakens these parts. We have enough chlorine in our municipal supply that you can sometimes smell it. It wreaks havoc on all these plastics overtime. The parts are so cheap, we tell folks to just swap it all out since you already went through the trouble of prepping for the task. The rubber parts all harden so might as well and just avoid future leaks.

Excellent video. Should have watched it in its entirety before replacing my fill valve. Busted off the plastic tube at the base of the flush valve. No worries as your video covered that as well.
Despite having to make an extra trip to the hardware store to replace the piece I broke...I believe this video saved me $$. The video simplifies an easy fix and is well worth the time.

Best production values I have seen on a youtube video. Really professional and well done. This is how videos should be done. Plus the information was excellent. Thanks!!

Note for if your toilet is running every few minutes. I had a toilet that would run for a couple seconds every few minutes. I replaced fill valve and flapper and it still doing it. I had just put the tube down into the overfill tube. Apparently this causes a siphon and pulls water from the tank and thus the fill valve tries to refill. I just cut the rubber hose to length and used the fill hose connector that mounts to the top of the overfill tube. This fixed my issue immediately. So, try this if you have that tube just stuck down the overfill tube

Nothing like a how to video done by a pro who knows how to explain things!

I just pulled the leaky fill valve out of my toilet and cleaned some junk out by tapping and rinsing in the sink. Reinstalled and it's working fine again. Thank you!

Thanks Roger. Cleaned the flow valve gasket with dish soap, and then a little silicone spray and inner tube with vinegar worked!! Leave it to the pros to get it right!

I love how informative your videos are. I'm tackling a complete change out of the toilet guts this weekend. This video and your others involving the change out of guts are extremely helpful. Thank you.

Economically, with time and cost of parts, is it better to just replace everything in the tank at one time vs driving to the hardware store several times to change the parts each time and spending the time draining the tank and preparation in changing each individual part as it fails?

Thank you!!!! Plumber appointment was a couple weeks later, so decided to do something about the toilet leak myself. You are a really good teacher, kudos to you!

Really appreciate all of your videos. I didn’t grow up with a father figure in the house so simple maintenance things like these were never talked to me.

I have a brand new toilet that when we flush the flapper doesn’t always reseat properly so it doesn’t seal. Jiggling the handle is the solution. I’ve tried adjusting the chain tighter but that didn’t fix it. What do I do next?

Like I just commented on your older version of this video, I just replaced the fill valve on our running toilet. Cost about $20 and took 20-25 mins (I take my time).

Thank you very much, sir.

The toilet was leaking from the tank into the bowl so that it would need to refill the tank every 30 minutes or so. I rebuilt it just a few days ago by replacing everything including the flash valve with the rubber washer at the bottom and the flapper.

But it is still leaking from the tank into the bowl.

My main mistake is probably not getting the part number from the existing toilet to make sure that the replacement parts were the proper size.

I'm going to try again by getting the part numbers and contacting the manufacturer to see if I can get replacement parts sent to me.

Thank you for that tip! I didn't know that toilet manufacturers warrantee those things or that the specs can vary to such a degree from one unit to the next!

Thanks, Roger!
With your guidance, I now have a Korky Fill valve with a Fluidmaster flush valve and my toilet has never flushed better.
I feel like I now have a proper hi-tech Franken-toilet.
It was running for a while, but I finally caught up with it.
Thank you, again!

Not only did you save me money, you saved me time and effort. I only replaced the flapper to see if that'd be ok and it was. I didn't have to disassemble the whole thing! Thank you!

I've seen a lot of DIY videos from various people, this is by far the best. You seldom see step by step instructions, and so well explained, you can do it yourself without going back to view it again, thank you so much.
