Thank you so much for the video you probably saved me several hundred dollars. Toilet was not flushing worth a crap pardon the pun lol but i was going to call a Plummer because i replaced everything in the back of the toilet new float literally everything brand new and still did not flush at all. I cleaned the back hole were you said sedamits can plug it and sure enough it looked like a gravel pit once i started scraping at that back hole. After a good 15 min af scraping at it nothing else was coming out of the hole and now it flushes like a champ. I was being told they were going to have to pull the toilet and snake the plumbing so thank you so very much.

I used to design and install septic systems. I am a state certified soil evaluator. When I have to work on my toilet, I use an old wet/dry shop vac to remove water. Just a tip someone may find handy.

I cleaned the holes underneath the seat using metal coat hanger hook part and I could see good amount of deposits falling down. It took me approx 6-8 mins to clean all the holes properly. Also, cleaned the other holes in the toilet but most of the deposits were in the smaller holes. Cleaned, flushed 2-3 times and it flushes properly now. Thank you for creating this video.

Your suggestion for cleaning out the holes underneath the edge of the toilet where water comes out during a flush was spot on. We have been dealing with a toilet that needs two flushes to work for months and could not figure out a solution. Finally we found your site on line, took out an allen wrench, cleared the calcium from the holes, and IT FLUSHES OUT IN ONE FLUSH! YEAH!

Thank you for sharing this non-chemical technique! I have a rural home and septic tank. I’m always careful not to upset the biology in the tank with heavy bleach or acid chemicals. I’m okay with using vinegar because it’s natural and can be neutralized. In any case, yours is the best video I’ve found for my limitations, and it worked great!

There are also toilet brushes available that have a flange kind of brush in addition to what we're accustomed to seeing. It fits up under the rim, and will help prevent the holes from getting clogged again. I love mine so much, I bought one for my daughter.

I use the toilet auger a little different. It has a rubber on the curved end to prevent scratching the porcelain. Pull the line out at the top where the handle is. Insert the curved end (with the rubber) into the trap and then push the line in as you turn the handle. Reverse these steps to remove.

For hard water buildup, usually calcium, put toilet bowl cleaner in that stand pipe you showed at the end of your video and let it wash out the discharge holes. If you will notice, most commercially prepared toilet bowl cleaners come in a necked bottle for spraying up into those discharge holes all around the rim. Some maintenance guys will jam toilet paper up under the rim and slowly pour TB cleaner into that fill pipe saturating the toilet paper without washing it out of place, and let the active ingredient, usually Hydrochloric Acid, work on the calcium build up. After a while they remove the packed in toilet paper and Viola' crapper works again.

After trying all these fixes this simple solution worked 100% It is most likely your chain is too short if that doesn't fix it then remove flapper and see if there adjustments on it, if so adjust to highest setting. Problem solved

Thanks, your video helped me to fix my toilet issue. You pointed out there is another hole farther from the tank which caused my toilet to flush slow -- quite some mineral built up there.

I'm so glad I was looking into some of your old videos and found this one. I have been having issues for the past 3 years with our one toliet not flushing properly. I bought a new one to replace it, but I will try to clean everything before I toss something that may be just an easy fix.
Thanks Jay!

Thanks a million I had calcium buildup as shown in minute 8, that is what fixed it for me. I used a chisel and some strong wiring to remove a lot of mineral build up

Thank you for this video. I had planned on replacing the entire flushing system, but after following these tips, the toilet flushes like it's brand new!

Excellent quick video explaining the workings of the toilet. I'm not handy at all and was able to fix my slow toilet just by understanding what was going on under there. Thank You

Very informative! At 1:10, after pulling out the lip on the plunger, fill with water and carefully flip it over with your fingers over the opening. I get a better effect without the trapped air being compressed.
