I hitch hiked around Europe in my 20's and came across the hole in the ground in Turkey. OMG. I was convinced that old people would never be able to manage this stance and holding power because I was having trouble and I was in good shape. I am in my 70's now and this Asian squat is a must do for me and you are saying all the right things and I am learning and doing. Thank YOU!!! 👍💕👍💕👍💕👍💕

I realized that the first glute stretch position is a lot like sitting and putting one ankle on the opposite knee, which I do all the time with my personal trainer as a resting pose. I tried the variations you gave and I think it has a lot of value for me.

It’s hard for me to get down on the floor so I do this on my bed. It does help stretch the glutes.

I loved the squat toilets in Japan. I’ve never had the ankle mobility to squat low without falling backwards, so I always had to hang on to the pipes. I really wanted to have one in a house someday. Thirty plus years later that hasn’t happened. :)

Variations of this stretch are the only thing that fix my back when I tweak it (usually just from sitting at the computer all day). this is my king stretch.

I watched a video you did five years ago on three common mistakes made in the evaluating of hip problems. And Jiminy Cricket your leg movements (kicks)were quite impressive! Likely, I'll never get that good, but it provided good incentive to listen to what you have to say!😊

Another encouraging video! Thanks! When I began my attempt at the Asian Squat, I couldn't even get my heels on the floor. Now, after several weeks, I can sit comfortably for several minutes, feet flat, bottom even touching the floor. Question: Is there any advantage in doing longer durations? My 'go to' is five minutes, two or three times a day. Thanks again.

Did the squat at a bar/restaurant in d.t. Beijing and at THE WALL public restrooms several hours out of Beijing. Many places had 'regular' toilets but not all. That was in 2015. Now my knees are tight and I'd be in a world of hurt! And there wasn't always a bar/rail/ handle to hold on to

I always would groan when our yoga teacher announced pigeon pose. I felt like it put too much torque on the knee area, even with props for support. So maybe this addresses the problem and will help prevent pigeon pose injuries.

I did not think I could squat when I went to Java, Indonesia and was so embarrassed at seeing a literal chair with a metal cone underneath where a seat could be that I made sure I could squat. It worked. I also learned how much cleaner it is to use a 2..3 liter "scoop with handle" to wash your bottom after using the toilet. I was interested to see that the floor-level toilet was actually a tankless flush toilet. It took 3 scoops for liquids and 5 scoops for solids. (Read more for the kicker)
Well 2..3 years later i was out in the woods at some Florida National Park or somewhere like that and had to squat to pee. But I was stiffer and needed to put my palms flat on the ground to steady myself. I was helpless in that position when a troupe of fat red ants walked over both my hands, stinging my hands en passant.
My introduction to "Fire ants".
