Listen to this woman ! I wish there had been something like this when I was younger . I have been dehydrating since my early 20s ( that is a long time ago) & everything she discusses here I learned from trial & error . I have several spiral notebooks full of info, what to do & what not to do on nearly everything that is possible to dehydrate . This is invaluable information for others just learning to dehydrate . Also don't count on your memory because sometimes we forget a few things . Everyone take care & enjoy life .

I hope that people who say they can't afford a dehydrator will find the lowest price they can and start. You do not need to start with a cosori or an excalibur. I didn't and it saved me money from the first day. Where I live in TN, I used ago old techniques of hanging for drying and everything just rotted - too damp to do that. I add parsley powder to almost every food I make. It is so nutritious - might not like to chew it on top of a meal, but the powder goes down easy.

Thank you for these tips. I think I will go get those dehydrating books, too. I did a lot last summer and fall, and nothing got ruined, but I was stressed and researching everywhere for each item. I just had to experiment a little, also. Thanks again.

Labeling is crucial. If anyone comes in as a caregiver, they will look at these things and wonder what in the world is it. Family my throw away. I label my jars not so much for me, but for others I hope will take interest and use if I can no longer help myself in cooking. Extremely important. Could be my age I think of these things as I’m 68 and live alone. I have family and friends, but they wouldn’t know how to use it if I don’t put “ how to use” instructions on my jars.

Like me!! Lol…I got busy, distracted and forgot to blanch my sliced carrots. I sliced them and put in the dehydrator and went on my way. I came across Darcy and…OMG!!….I remembered I didn’t do that step! I panicked and Darcy calmed me right down…but I won’t do it again! Ever…I will blanch.

Your website is AWESOME. Everyone should use it! And the books are excellent. So easy easy to use. And I always make notes in the book I use...I have literally Xed out recipes that were "failures."
