In this video, we’re going to talk about sugar cravings and carb cravings on keto. Sometimes, you’re craving carbs on keto because your carb intake is too high.

To stop carb cravings, keep your carbohydrate intake below 20 grams. Avoid fruit, beans, breads, pastas, and other foods high in carbs. Craving sugar or carbs on keto means you are not fully in ketosis yet—you’re still in the transition phase.

In order to stop sugar cravings and carb cravings, you have to stop spiking insulin. You must do intermittent fasting along with keto to stop spiking insulin. This will stop you from craving carbs on keto. Adding fat to your meal can help you go longer between meals and can also help prevent carb cravings.

The potassium and magnesium in vegetables are key to maintaining healthy insulin levels. 7 to 10 cups of vegetables will leave you feeling full and satisfied, and will help reduce sugar cravings and carb cravings.

If you keep your carbs low, do intermittent fasting, and increase your vegetable intake, your sugar cravings and carb cravings should go away within 2 to 3 days. Once your cravings have stopped, then you’ll know that you’re in true ketosis.

It isn’t always physical or physiological...many times cravings can be triggered by emotions, our mental state, stress, etc. what I’m trying to say is that cravings are not a clear cut black and white issue. It’s much more complex than “not eating enough vegetables” or “not doing IF” for instance. I’m just bringing this up because it’s easy enough to fix this issue, sure, if it’s only a matter of increasing potassium or doing IF. But if your cravings are emotionally or mentally derived and not physically, then the solution becomes more complicated and even more challenging, I would argue.

I would love to see a video talking about the psychological issues of obesity. I find that the only time I crave sugar is when I’m under extreme stress like my mother being hospitalized or fighting with my ex-husband. My mouth doesn’t want it but my emotions do! I swear I can go weeks without even thinking about sugar and something will trigger me and the first thing my mind goes to is cake or licorice, I believe whole heartedly in keto and have seen amazing results not just weight loss but acne, psoriasis, joint pain, high blood pressure and pre-diabetes all under control when I stick to it! Even noticed skin tags disappearing!!! The hardest part by far is old habits and maybe a little self sabotage! Thank you for all you do 🌞💋💋

I’ve been strictly on my keto diet for quite a while. But once I mess up, it’s hard to find my way back, I always keep binge eating to fulfill the emotional hunger that I accumulated during my strict keto diet. I’ve been on and off for quite a while. I think I’m having a Bulimia every time I’ve been doing good on Keto for a certain period of time.Plz help me Dr.Berg

Speaking from experience as I have come through this. Increasing the Salads does take this craving away. And it does go away when you do what Dr Berg has mentioned. I now have only eating window a day and I look forward to the salad part.

This is truly truly the most realistic, the best channel on youtube so far. I always was oneof those kids who asks 'what does stand behind that math formula?' and made my teacher to explain where that 'ready to go' formula comes from. And yes I was lucky I have got good math teachers at school. And this guy is one of those teachers! Thank you! For explaning why should I do the things that say to do !

I have been in Ketosis - confirmed by blood monitoring - for 2 months with intermittent fasting 5 days a week and a 5 - 7 day water fast once a month. My carbs don't go over 20 grams and I keep my protein intake below 40 grams. In spite of definitely being in ketosis and NOT transitioning I am having the worst cravings for sugar today. The only difference about my situation is that I am fighting a cold. These cravings are so bad it is taking every ounce of willpower I have to fight it.

I started a ketogenic lifestyle about 4 months ago doing <50g of carbs initially and gradually lowering. At first my carb cravings weren't too bad, but the more I've denied myself, the stronger they've gotten. I did <20g carbs for 3 weeks and still had sugar cravings. Then I switched to <5g a day (mostly carnivore with some cheese thrown in) for the last two weeks and I STILL have ridiculous sugar cravings (mainly for pop tarts and processed junk like that - really wish the cravings were for something sensible like fruit...).

I find it difficult to believe that I'm not in ketosis since I've lost a significant amount of fat. I don't believe the cravings are indicative of state of ketosis (at least not 100%) so much as just sugar addiction. Unfortunately, I think it just takes a while for your brain to cleanse it's addiction if you've been running on sugar your entire life, regardless of your current metabolic state.
