Out of every Character in the MCU I think Nebula has the most heartbreaking story. True parents were killed, adopted by an abusive father, trained to be a weapon/killer. She always tried her best against Gamora and lost every time, as a result she was physically mutilated and tortured by her father. She never had anyone love her, except for Gamora who died. The only people she warmed up to and cared for were Tony Stark and Gamora who both died.

Thanos tortures Nebula instead of Gamora because he has a soft spot for Gamora and actually loves her. Which is why he had to sacrifice her in Vormir to get the Soul stone.

Watching Thanos torture Nebula and also Thor in the beginning was scary and disturbing. But it shows that Thanos is the greatest villain of MCU. Strong, evil and ruthless.

It’s so touching how Gamora basically sacrifices half the universe for her sister. Not even the consequences of her confession are enough to prevent her from finally speaking up - after decades of silence - and doing something to stop Thanos from harming her sister.

Not even gonna lie, this scene freaks me out.

This scene is an example of why phase 1 was so successful. They had good quality acting. The actress that portrayed Nebula her shrieking in agony, and the way she performed that shrieking in agony and the aftermath when the agony stopped and she collapsed with a weary strong exhale. That sells the scene. Otherwise it's just some pretty colored lights like on a Christmas Tree, lighting up as he closed his fist and supposedly some effect is happening to Nebula, and her sister also did a good job, being anguished and unable to allow Nebula to suffer further. Good acting is what makes that scene work.
