This is what makes infinity war such a good movie and even better then endgame. Because you are provided with a villian who has an emotional backstory with interesting motives...
And he wins.

People miss out on the subtext. This IS Gamora she is dead and in the soul stone. He sees her as a child because that's how he sees her. We know the other version of her is still alive. But that lil girl is the Gamora we knew. Deep.

Originally the VFX team were going to make the red water the blood of all Thanos' victims. They ended up cutting it but the palate choice for the scene has some of the symbolism left over. Sleep well tonight everyone
