Infinity war thanos is so well written. He IS in fact a monster. But actually seeing the sadness he felt for killing his adoptive daughter who he did love, really grounds him as a character. Which in my opinion makes him feel real

I think Gamora's death is even more tragic when you consider her line from Guardians 1: "I have spent most of my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die among my friends". Here she doesn't get the death she wanted.

What I find some meat is that at the very end, when Gamora lies, they’re dead, you can see the outline of other bodies. Those are the bodies of others who were thrown in order to retrieve the stone.

What’s crazy is that this entire movie made you think at first of how absolutely insane Thanos was in his desire to wipe out half the universe. And then as the movie forces you to hear him out, all the sudden he becomes more understood to a point where you almost want him to win. A character you grow to hate and love at the same time.

So, possible alternate take on this scene, it wasn't Gomora's soul that was sacrificed, it was Thanos's. Because to kill a beloved family member one loses their own soul. You become not only a murderer, but also a perpetrator of filicide, the killing of a offspring. Any parent, even an adoptive one, is forever responsible for the safety and well being of the offspring.

The lip quiver and twitching in his face after tossing Gamora is genuinely heartbreaking. Thanos was a monster for sure, but not a blind and careless one. I really wish they could come up with something as compelling as his character again.

The Score really makes this scene hit hard, I was literally saddened and heartbroken when Thanos killed Gamora, and the score (Which is Alan Silverstrie’s ‘Even For You’) makes it work even better.

Thanos was truly on the fence, on a knife's edge, whether he could bear to fulfill his mission at such a price. Then Gamora gave him all that sass, and it tipped the balance.
