When I say “hamstring stretches” what images come to your mind?

For most of us, we think of two stretches - either seated and folding forward reaching towards your toes or standing folding forward reaching towards your toes.

The reality is, these are two of the WORST hamstring stretches out there for two reasons…

1. They cause your pelvis to tilt backwards which minimizes the effectiveness of the stretch on your hamstrings.

2. They typically result in a big rounding arch in your back which makes the stretch ineffective and can contribute to lower back pain (especially if you have disc issues).

The bottom line is better hamstring stretches exist, and my goal with this video is to demonstrate them to you!

HOW TO STRETCH YOUR HAMSTRINGS
In this video I’ll show you 4 exercises that will effectively stretch your tight hamstrings in the right position while also protecting your back. This is done through being mindful of the position of your spine and pelvis and stretching in the right postures.

This results in safer, more-effective stretching for your tight hamstring muscles.

For anyone wondering, did this for 2 weeks, went from barely getting to knees to full toe touch. Worked like magic, thank you so much!

6:12 "The objective on this is not to touch your toes, but to stretch your hamstrings" - that was really important for me to hear! Sometimes your own ambition (of touching your toes) gets in the way of your true goal (stretching properly). Thank you for that!

Dude, you're awesome. Thank you so much. I have been doing your plank routine almost daily for a couple years. Just ordered the roller and strap for the hamstring exercises. I recently did similar exercises with local PT after I damaged a hamstring. You made out easy to click/order. I appreciate your work. Neal in Garner, NC

I really like the third stretch because it's the easiest to set up. The second & third sets felt so good I ended up doing more than a minute each, wow!

Finally! Thank you for describing in detail what is wrong (for me at least) with a typical toe touch stretch. The pelvis tilt plus the rounding of the back make it ineffective at best and potentially damaging at worst. Feeling validated and hopeful

Fantastic video! That first stretch, with the side variations, absolutely “unlocked” my hamstrings. Feels terrific - thanks!

Thanks for this video. I'm a competitive rower and will be incorporating all of these stretches into my daily routine. I have been using stretchy bands to assist and noticed you said to find something that doesn't stretch. I can easily see that the stretchy bands don't help as much.
