Crossing the cold NORTH SEA MID WINTER. Bad idea...!

29th of January I set sail across the feared North Sea. And to do it wintertime does not make it any better. I was about to find that out the hard way.

Join me on this first episode, across this brutal ocean as I planned to attend the incredible Up Helly Aa Vikingfestival!

Enjoy :)

I f**ing love this channel. No tanning, coladas, tropical islands, just the north sea and the viking. Grand.

Nice sailing is my favorite. The 3 AM to 6 or 7 Am is the best, getting to see the sunrise offshore makes up for the the wet and lack of sleep.

Great video. Looking forward to the next one. Intentionally setting sail despite the fact that nature may well give you a spanking is something that's lost on a lot of modern fair weather sailors. But there you are. Awesome!

Great video, it always terrifies me seeing you up on the deck without a tether. But I remember you mentioning it in a previous video :>

Fantastic video Eric, you are certainly pushing the boundary's on this trip I have been in the Orkneys in winds of 50 mph bad enough walking let alone sailing in them, looking forward to your next video 👍.

Great video, but no lifelines or lifejacket when on deck?

I’m 50% Swedish, so it moves me at a visceral level, these Viking crossings of the North Sea!

Glad to see the new mast sliders working well for you! I worry about you Eric- that need for speed can sometimes result in over confidence an overestimation of one’s abilities. I learned that the hard way on a motorcycle when I very nearly killed myself going off a curve at high speed. Would have left 2 young children without a father. I still like fast boats and challenges but I stack the odds in my favor now rather than against me.

Great video - thank you. Mr. Erik seems very casual with being tethered to the boat !! Especially outside the cockpit on a small boat in cold conditions. "Be Careful"

The true meaning of NBJS :-) Just one guy and a boat - my favourite kind of sailing! Glad you made it there and back! Amazing inspiration - stay safe!

Erik. Your videos are simply breathtaking. THANK YOU for this one!
I am crossing the North Sea in August, on a 65ft boat so much larger than Tessie, still those waves ending this video made be a bit nervous.
Vind i seglen och fortsätt med vad du gör, åter tack!!

This is what i love about sailing. "The adventure and everything is up to yourself to adapt to, and the situation changes all the time"

As an American with distant Norwegian heritage- something about your videos bridges that gap. Keep it up Erik, safe travels
