Living in the North East of the UK, just 8 minutes from the coast. The North Sea is truly ominous, even on the brightest day, its an expanse of water that isn't for the faint of heart, even on a flat calm, its still slightly choppy, very cold always and holds a merky green colour. When the tide is in, it crashes always. Brave are those souls who traverse the bastard on the daily aswell as those who work the Rigs, the Windmills and the fishermen.

Its hard work being a Northerner, but we grin and bare it.

I live 10 minutes away from the North Sea in the Netherlands. I remember as a small child once being thrown flat on the bottom by a wave near the shoreline. And then feeling myself being sucked back further into the water. It was so scary and I remember literally thinking I was going to die. At that moment my father pulled me up and lifted me safe to the beach :p but I never knew our sea was this scary! 😮

The Vikings traveled back and forth across the North Sea. In wooden ships. With no modern technology. This makes them Epic Badasses! I also heard Ireland has some incredible surf breaks.

Have been in a terrible surprise storm with my sailing boat crossing from Belgium to England. The weather was quiet when we left the port of Oostende, but man, after two hours we faced waves of 4-6 meters. An helicopter came and went chased by the storm. The next day it was quiet again, sunny and windless, to the extent we needed the engine. Thanks for the video. I didn’t know about that, but kind of witnessed it years ago!

For such a small body of water it is dangerous. I wonder what happens in places we haven't explored yet.

Living in North East UK and regularly going to the many beaches along the coast, some off Scotlands coast aswell as a kid. I never understood when watching American shows why they were so frightened of the somewhat rough ocean. The North Sea is absolutely brutal and beyond terrifying.

Me and my mates would go to the end of the pier on the worst days just to look into it and we would get shivers looking into the murky dark green sea, just looks so unforgiving with the waves crashing in every direction, the sound is thunderous and the thought of jumping in, even that close to shore was the real stuff of nightmares and I still get goosebumps imagining what ugly things lurk in it that can see you, but you can’t see them. 100x horrifying at night. I’ve had actual nightmares of being out floating on my own a few miles off the coast on a foggy overcast day and being able to see the coastline and sensing how vast and deep and freezing it is.

To think James Cook, born in my hometown, crossed it in the 1700’s on a wooden ship, not knowing if he’d even find anything is just mind blowing. Brave men on another level in them days, and how the ships survived is beyond me. Redcar had a pier but it was knocked down after one shipwreck, then salt burn pier was twice as long as it is now, another ship wreck reduced its size.

The average depth of North Sea is 400 meters, shallowness makes it easier for strong winds to move the water .

🇬🇧 Im half way through& so far views of Cancun in S.America & a tropical beach with palm trees have been shown...? WHAT ?

it's not rocket science to at least put up some rough seas!

I live on the Northumberland coast literally on the North Seas doorstep!
The Spring Tides are almost here & that IS a thing to witness..
With waves hitting the rocks & harbours, jetties & piers with such force that they shoot 100s metres into the air & with cross
Currents hitting each other its like an underwater explosion coming to the surface.

The noise of all this is like the denizens of hell about to break through.
My house faces the North Sea & from my 2nd floor window its like a front row seat to watch natures fury in full force.

Even on the hottest days, going for a paddle freezes your feet & legs.. it's always cold... freezing
A neighbour of mine Big Ted, swims out there most days of every season!
It must do him good.. hes 70yrs
Ex Marine, Fisherman & hes never ill & as strong as an Ox
And insane... to swim out there.

Being caught in a big storm on the North Sea is indescribable!
Crossing from North Shields to Norway by Ferry is like every extreme amusement ride rolled into one!

The number of times ive been fastened into my seat & watched my ferry tip so far from left to right almost flat to the seas surface, is soo terrifying yet
Utterly exhilarating!

How those Vikings crossed to our shores is incredible! The ultimate seafarers & navigators!
Im telling you! That sea can turn on a sixpence!

One moment like glass.. well broken glass, next the sky is a huge bruise & the waves are gigantic! Ive never seen waves like the North Sea can birth!

All in All ?
I wouldnt live anywhere else
Our North Sea is a wonder of nature & sitting watching it from your comfy attic Dormer is
Like watching the greatest show on èarth ... & that of the Icelandic volcano eruptions
Peace & Good Cheer to All
🇬🇧👧

Back in the 70s, I was on a navy ship heading from Scotland to Norway. For 3 days the weather was force 9 to 11, the worst weather the navy had sailed in for 10 years, so I was told. During the crossing a wave was measured 10 miles away with the Sonar on board, that we met full on, it buckled the wave break, that powerful...I still clearly remember those 3 days 50 odd years on

I can see the North Sea from my house. And yeah, it’s brutal especially in winter.
