One day I was lazily taking a bath and realized how slow the bathtub drained and that made me think if my cockpit drains … Next thing I did the next winter was to add two more drain holes each being doubled. It was more effective a couple of times : when the cockpit could had been filled and drain into the cabin… Nothing fancy in terms of weather : just left Jersey Island at the wrong time and got caught in the Raz Blanchard by a force 6.
I would advise you to tuck these sheets away : as loose as they are they're not great help for the water to drain.
But You already know that I suppose.
Good video.

Wow, very slow drainage, sounds like a great project in the summer.

Always entertaining Eric, amazing videos of places we never even imagined existed. Cheers.

North sea is no joke. It's relatively shallow, so the waves can get crazy. I was on a massive ferry from dover to calais and even the crew was worried. (most of the passengers were sick)

I sailed in a storm with a guy from sweden who had previously sailed on the north sea. I was freaked but he was super chill. It was nothing for him.

If you sail out of it you a good sailor .
I am Dutch and I have seen swells and waves so big you would not have a change .
If this is winter you had a lucky day

"We need to get to shore now" i hope that, because this video made it out, that you made it to shore. Glad you're ok! ❤

Common problem. Scuppers are too small. That cockpit needs to drain in seconds, not minutes.

My dad was in the Dutch navy in the seventies. Sailed on a 65m mine sweeper. He's told me stories about sailing in the North Sea along an identical sister ship. They'd lose sight of each other, sometimes, when both were in a trough.

You're a braver man than I am, going out there in that tiny dinghy.

Things r beeing done like a landlover.
You dont have your windsteering device on when going downwind with your mainsail up let alone with the main pulled almost to the middle.
The guy just meeded some action video to gather funds.

The north sea can be a lot meaner, probably better to not go on autopilot, 2 of those waves, and you'll be close to sinking, that water stay's in way too long.

I have the same problem with my drains. I have thought of putting a pump inline for these times

My steering cable snapped in waves like that but my partner, an experienced Bermuda racer, got the emergency tiller on in seconds and had me head back to shore.
