Money gives better options or choices and does not make you happy. Happiness can be achieved when you get rid off the desire to want. Happiness is a different pathway to success or wealth, happiness comes from within.

Thanks Toby. Money really isn't everything, there is so much more to life.

We have such a low standard of living because we are heavily taxed and everything is so expensive

Having no money certainly brings darker days.
I think that people that have been in this situation could see that money would bring an element of happiness, even if that happiness is them breaking even each month.

I put 1500 a month into my pension and take home about £ 2500
I give my partner £500 a month towards all bills and food and insurancea etc etc
I generally spend about £150 a month and save the rest
Some of What I save, then pays for holidays, we like our holidays but always holiday in the cheap
Eg
August 5 nights in Crete was £480 for both of us
4 nights in salou in October was £360 for both of us
5 nights in Turkey all inclusive was £700 for both of us
You need a lot less than you think you need if your thrifty
Wnen i retire in 8 yesrs time when im 60
Im confident 1200 a momth will be more than enough to live on and have a canny few holidays abroad a year

The beauty is in the struggle - it's about the journey not the destination... having money isn't a goal in itself.

I cannot find a video that Im looking for on youtube. My situation is like this (i think many can relate too). Im not rich, but i earn a good salary, above average salary in my country I live (in a top 10 happiest country in the world). What brings me happiness is a relationship (other things make me happy too but not much). Unfortunately Im not lucky in relationship, heart-broken and sad with my special person. I want to be happy without this relationship. So i want to find out how money can bring me happiness (with some proven examples i can follow). I tried going on vacations to many destinations including quite luxurious holidays (but not happy as I desire to go holiday with my special person, even simple holiday with SP can make me happy). I feel happy when i buy gifts to family and closed friends, but they don’t appreciate it as much as my SP showed me appreciations when i bought gifts. These are just examples. I tried to focus on spiritual too but still struggling. I have some money, that’s the only thing i have, so i want a video “how to make me happy with money (not rich money)”

Top work Toby !
In life hitting the sweet spot is the answer and not letting expectation inflation rule you Needing more to bolster your ego and using it as a benchmark of your achievement

@1:30 I think Biggie and Puff Daddy had it right: "Mo money, Mo problems..." (or was it "no money, mo problems"...)

Tony, it's not how much money you need to earn to be happy it's more closely associated with the amount of disposable income you have after everyday household outgoings (Mortgage, car payments, utility bills and food) etc. I had to take early (medical) retirement a few years ago, effectively quartering my salary, which was quite a challenge, as you can imagine. However, once we learnt to cut our cloth accordingly and live within our means, i.e. being content with what we have wasn't anywhere near as difficult as anticipated. Yes, we could always do with a bit more money as people tend to spend to the limit of their income but it's not actually necessary to live like this. Free time is more important that money because the amount of free time you have directly relates to doing all those things (experiences) that make you happy.

I'm fortunate to be able to allocate time however i choose. My diary is the thing that keeps me happy.

I have about 5-6 nature recovery projects across the Cotswolds and 3 community projects in my local town.

The thing I've noticed in the last four years since i stopped work is that all the things I really enjoy doing are all free (today i was restoring a reed bank next to a canal).

And every project increases cohesion and resilience within the community.

I do spend money on food, transport, utilities etc (and recently a YouTube premium subscription) but beyond that i really struggle. My portfolio throws off way more cash in a year than I can realistically spend.

So in that sense, my happiness is enabled by wealth but completely decoupled from it.

I put all my effort into spending time and practically zero into spending money.

Interesting stuff mate, nice graphs too! Personally I feel like I'm earning ok and am happy with my lot; the family is fed, warm and safe. All I'd like is for my salary to be keeping pace with inflation...at the moment thats not happening.

Really enjoy the range of topics, beyond simple shares, cash, that you share. On this video do you have a link to the tedtalk in question? Be keen to watch it all through. Thanks in advance and happy holidays

Hi Toby I’m so frugal (putting all money into pension, stocks and killing the mortgage off) that I live on about £500 a month and as long as can eat well and exercise I’m happy.

this topic will always be debated as new generations come through. Lifestyles have changed over the 75 year period with advances in technology, global interaction ever quicker and easier. So I would say don't look at others peoples wealth, just focus on improving your own life and the rest is gravy as they say :)
Oh and thanks for another interesting vid dude.

That Harvard study is interesting. Wonder if they have taken into account the effects of being part of the study. Are the people more focused as a result of being involved in the study?
