Protein Powder Causes Muscle LOSS?! WHAT? (Article Review)

Help me make more cheesy content:

An interesting article makes some very bold claim about protein powder (and protein in general) that, if true, would change our long-held understanding of how protein can help you build muscle. But like too many times on the internet, when these claims are cross-checked, things don't pan out exactly as expected. Let's see what these claims are all about and how it holds up compared to the scientific literature!

Real talk though: the real risk of eating too much protein is losing your gains... in your wallet. A lot of bros are going around eating too much protein because they see their favourite mass-monster influencer downing 3 grams/pound and they selectively listen to talk about how "you can't get too much protein."

I guess that the really high protein intake causing muscle loss has to do with the fact that if you eat a lot of protein you will be satiated faster and maybe not getting enough calories. (Lean protein sources consumption only)

I recently had to reduce my protein intake due to issues. I would only use a protein shake after exercising in the gym and after bike rides. During long, strenuous bike rides I started experiencing severe cramping in my legs and the pain after leg day would last for several days after. I started to supplement with magnesium and zinc which helped a lot but did not solve the problem. It was keeping from progressing as I should and gains stopped. Six months ago I stopped using protein powder entirely and the cramping and pain after leg day has disappeared. I am progressing again and feeling great on long rides and in the gym and I no longer need magnesium and zinc.

When you look at supplementing single amino acids for a specific effect, you often find the hint to consume it without protein because it uses the same transporters (afair mostly for the brain-barrier and not guts, but I could be wrong). That might be the proposed mechanism. If you take a lot of pure fast digesting protein it might overload the transport mechanisms. In that case transporting some aminos might be favoured over others, leading to those being digested by bacteria instead of getting absorbed, leading to an imbalance. That's very hypothetical, but it is a possibility that our digestive tract is not well adapted to these pure fast digesting protein because that doesn't really exist in nature. As always: more research is needed. [Or, well, in this case any research to back up these claims to begin with]

The level of unbiased statements from the review is astounding, man's said he's gotta delete his channel if he's in the wrong 😂

I can't believe it. They most likely messed up both measurement systems, with the protein intake recommendation, and wanted to say 1-2g per *KG* of body weight.

I mean, the fact that the scientific literature even considers using both systems in one sentence is just absolutely ridiculous.
Like, why are we making this harder than it needs to be?

That article is like “tell me you dont know what you’re talking about without telling me you dont know what you’re talking about” type of thing 😆

Look I can write words mama, I too can be an article thing writer.

I was laughing out loud in the middle of the street like a maniac when the big reveal on how much protein to eat in order to avoid eating too much would be according to them xD

What can we do to stop these articles? It should be illegal to spread this misinformation even more if it is regarding health.

The only way I can figure muscle loss is eating such high protein that you aren't getting enough carbs and can't get in as good of a workout...which is a big leap

my problem is too little protein. why do foods have so little protein? cant even find protein powder anywhere near me. only accessible protein source is eggs but i’d have to eat a dozen of them a day to meet my goals.
