Who else realised this is the same line from the last scene of the original 2000 xmen

I like this title. It tries to completely ignore the fact that Dark Phoenix exists.

What cool about the conversation is the fact that the almost the same conversation happened at the end of the first X-Men movie when their older counterparts were playing chess. It seems they intended this movie to be the last one but the studio thought of milking the Francise

This should’ve been the end of the X-Men franchise

Even Erik can’t help but respect Charles response. He’s grown to realize even though they want to coexist with humans he will do what he must to defend those he’s sworn to not only protect. But learn about themselves so they can work towards a future when they don’t get attacked or prejudiced. But he will absolutely destroy someone who would try to take that away. Not from him. But from those who never saw what mutants can do when they work for the greater good

One of most interesting that Erik who has fought Xmen many times and have severe disagrements over Charles vision of humanity and mutants living in harmony as equals he doesnt mind put his helmet on near Charles. There is a great deal respect towards Charles Erik has shown.

When Charles answered Erik on his last question starting with "I pity....", I got a sense of a little darkness there like don't try it I'm a peaceful man but mess with those I care about then I will attack you. Perhaps Charles in a way is not so different than Erik after all, they just are two different personalities who compliments each other. I think that is why they bond and gel so we'll together in spite of their differences.

When Patrick Stewart said it, it was filled with empathy and sadness. As if “I feel sorry for their bigotry and fear”

When James said it there was a hint of a threat.

As if “no only do I feel sorry for their bigotry, but I also feel bad for the horrible things that would happen to the people who try and attack us”

I think for the mutants they need both an Erik and a Charles out there.

What’s the saying, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Charles and the X-men inspire humanity not to be afraid of us or turn against us.

Erik and the brotherhood warns humanity of the consequences if they do turn against mutants.

Charles is the carrot and Erik is the stick.

Professor Charles Xavier: "the world's already begun rebuilding it's Arsenals." "I still their hope." "I was right about raven, it was right about you." "It does, indeed." "I feel a great swell of pity for the poor soul that comes to my school looking for trouble." "You know sure I can't convince you to stay?" "Goodbye, old friend."
Magneto/Erik: "it's human nature, Charles." "I still have hope." *chuckle* "Ohh yes." "Hope." "What about the rest of the World? Doesn't it ever wake you up in the middle of the night? The feeling that one day they'll come for you...& your children?" "What do you do when you wake up to that?" "You're a psychic, Charles." "You can convince me to do anything." "Good luck, professor."

I think that for all this movie's flaws (particularly with the last act), one thing that was done exceptionally well was these two's character development.

Charles was forced to confront his own limitations and question his beliefs. In the end, he was proven right and wrong. Right when those with power chose to protect those without (storm changed sides and Magneto chose to side with him once again) and wrong when his school came under attack and his students were captured by humans.

And Erik, his storyline in this movie alone was Michelin star cuisine. Immense tragedy, grief, regression, contemplation, redemption and ultimately, acceptance of loss and reconnection with those he still has, ending with him deciding to move forward with a more optimistic view of the future. What a masterpiece of character writing.
