When parents disagree on parenting styles - Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart

We often hear from parents that disagree about how to parent.

The questions we get asked often sound like this... a mom wants to be understanding and empathic when a child is struggling, but the dad thinks the child needs to “toughen up” or “get over it”.

How do you deal with this?

And, especially how do you figure out what to do if you have a highly sensitive or high needs kid?

These are the questions we recently asked Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart...

And what she said was brilliant and insightful.

She said that we need both parts…

It’s great to be compassionate and to have understanding for our kids. Once our kids have felt heard, then we can help them solve their problems and help them build their skills.

Parents can work together to give their kids a little cushion and a little pushin’! 😄

Wow i like how you said it's a mindset and generational for a Caribbean father. That's too powerful

You are so correct, Culture is a big thing and also each parent trusting each other with a parenting decision and trying to support them is important too….

Me and my 15 y.o. daughter's father have been separated since she was little and we never agreed on parenting styles. Our child suffers from mental health issues, tried to commit suicide and father still denies there are any issues and denies to cooperate with me.Its a nightmare really and never thought would have to go through it in life

What happens when the parents are divorced, living different lives, and the child obviously prefers one over the other?
